Feb Ct 1769. Jas Hall CC. I have records showing him as Elder Jordan Sherrod at Fall of the Tar River Baptist Church. Also at Sappony Creek. I have him (Jordan) in Census records for 1790, 1800, 1810, 1830 and 1840. I Have a writeup in the Newspaper Rocky Mount, NC Dated Dec 4 1959 with " an old reporter" giving the same information. Brick wall is finding Edmond (Edmund) Sherrard. We know Edmund was in the Rev War Militia of Edgecombe County July 20 1778. Per church records from Primitative Baptist book dated 1886 C. B. Hassell. Jordan stated he (Jordan) worked at West Point (also in Rev records) and only in one skirmish. But his father was wounded in the war and was in a hospital. (Hospitals in rev war time?) Casualties line has a C No. 35V.3360 Edwd Sherrod * So in book Vol 6 page 31 . Pt. in Bakers Co. We know Jordan was the only son per church book. We have Edmond as a chain carrier in the Granville District of NC Vol 1 Abstract Number 1201 Patent Book 11 Pg 284. We have Edmund purchasing 335 acres in Edgecombe County, NC from Arthur Taylor 11-16-1753. in Newspapers article out of Rocky Mount. We have road orders where Edmond was ordered to be a jury for laying out a road from the Bridge at Duncan Lamons (Lemons). We have Edmund as a witness in Isle of Wight Virginia for Robert Bryant (gather that hint from newspaper the found records). But we can't find Edmond with any other family members other than Jordan. Can't get past this brick wall. Oh and thanks to Dr. A.B. Pruitt we see Edmond's family was one of the families cheated out of the Tenn. Land. Glasglow land fraud case. YIKES! Appreciate any help or thoughts. I have a tree in ancestry and I've done the DNA test. I do not see a Stegall relative (Stegall vs Sherrod was a huge court case in VA for it's time). Jordan R. Sherrod (Stegall adopted) by Col. Thomas Sherrod.
