Advice before editing this pre-1700 Anne profile?

Question

I have information to contribute to the profile of Anne (Anne) Unknown. This is what I can add:

• I would like to remove the "Preferred name" so her name simply displays as: Anne Unknown

These are the sources I am using:

• Her will written March 1629/30, proved April 1630.

Should I contact one of the pre-1700 projects or know about any style guidelines before proceeding? Thank you!

Right now Anne is her Last Name At Birth.  While that is possible, it seems extremely unlikely given she signed her Will as Anne Ruddle.

The Last Name At Birth needs documentary verification, otherwise it should be Unknown, with the Current Last Name Ruddle.

Also, it might be an idea to mention in the Biography (or under a Research Notes header above the Sources) her children -- those who were surviving at the time she wrote her Will (as it is not currently obvious how many still survived by the time of her death).

She had at least eight children still living when she wrote her Will: 

1. Thomas Ruddle my Sonne 
2. Francis Ruddle my sonne 
3. William Ruddle my sonne 
4. Leonard Ruddle my sonne 
5. Mary Bayly my Daughter 
6. Elizabeth, Daughter
7. Rebecca, Daughter
8. John Ruddle my sonne

She also mentions a Margaret West as one to be given one of "two old coats" (the other going to son Leonard), but does not mention what relationship Margaret is, if there is one.

The preferred name space cannot be blank, so you can change it, but not remove it.  That is not the source of your problem, though.

The "(Anne)" showing in her name is her LNAB (Last Name At Birth).  That should probably be changed to Unknown and the CLN (Current Last Name) should probably be Ruddle, based on the will you already added, (before asking this question of whether you should add it).

I would advise you not to change her LNAB, though, until someone who knows more than I (and probably you, too, since you're asking here) about it makes the decision that it should be done.
