Anna Auerhahn was born Jan 1861 in Germany (per USA census), married Michael Utz in 1888 and they came to the United States July 5, 1890, landing in New York on the ship Aller. They settled in the Chicago area. Charles Auerhahn Utz (son) is my ancestor. Anna passed on March 21, 1920 in Chicago, IL. Michael was born October, 1860 in Germany and passed May 26, 1906 in Chicago, IL.

I have been unable to locate parents or family for Anna Auerhahn or Michael Utz. They were Jews leaving Germany.

Thank you so much for any help,

Stephanie.

I just adopted Margaretha Utz (Utz-154) Margaretha Utz (1666 - aft. 1715). She married a Schmidt (which has evolved to Smith) and am looking for my Schmidt/Smith ancesters.  There are 3 siblings on that profile if that helps.

Any indication where in Germany they may have been from?

The SS Aller left from Bremen and went to NY... Other than that I'm not sure how to find out.

Any ideas on where I should be looking for the info? (immigration, censuses, birth/marriage/death records, etc)

Thanks!
Unfortunately the Bremen Passenger Lists from this time from the Bremen side were destroyed. Have you tried JewishGen? There are 48 hits for the last name Auerhahn and 376 for Utz. I can't check them out because I am not a subscriber. Perhaps somebody else can.
Just found a birth place for Anna Auerhahn on one of her childrens birth registries: Oberhatzkofen, Germany.

Maybe this helps?
Oberhatzkofen is now part of Rottenburg an der Laaber in Lower Bavaria, between Munich and Regensburg. There was a Jewish community in nearby Pfeffenhausen and in Landshut. Today the only existing community nearby is Straubing. Maybe they would have information about 19th century emigration from the area and/or records for other Lower Bavaria communities. email: ikg-straubing@t-online.de

The German Emigration-Database lists Mich. and Anna Utz, ages 30 and 26, emigrating in 1890, and in the same year Thomas Utz, age 34, and Eugene Utz, age 16. http://www.dad-recherche.de/hmb/search_engl.asp?Nachname=Utz&Vorname=&Geschlecht=%25&Datum=1890&Datum2=&Datum3=
