I'm FREE to help with Clean-up... Do You Need Help? [closed]

If you uploaded a big gedcom with tons of profiles that need to be cleaned up, I may be able to help... you need not face thousands of profiles alone!

If all the names are incorrectly in the first-name field, if a common source link needs to be added to each, or if every "Green" must be changed to "Greene" I'm your guy.

No need to ignore clean-up, no need to justify mistakes, no explanation required at all.

Just contact me with a clear description of the task and I will let you know if I am able, and if so when I can do it.

Have a great day all!

Wow, Robert - what an offer!  I've got oodles of yard work, including trees that came down in storms over the winter and now need to be removed ... and, if you also do windows, there are dog nose prints all over mine.

I got a new Chain-Saw for Christmas... if the drive wasn't so far I'd stop by and dice those trees up for you.

Much appreciated - it's the thought that counts!

I just thought of some cleanup of the kind you're offering.  Being geographically challenged, I have a lot of trouble with getting place names right, especially since no two sources seem to use the identical ones.  For example, I have seen Rhein Province, Rheinland, Rheinland-Pfalz, Rheinprovinz, Rheinland Palatinate and maybe a few other versions for one place - at least I am guessing that they are all one place.

Could I twist your arm to go through the Holocaust Victims and figure out what the correct place names are and make them all match?  You could take it in small chunks - the Victims are all in sub-categories for the different places they were imprisoned.  I think I have the names of the camps and ghettos right, but I could be wrong on some of those too.

I can only imagine how much effort you have invested in that project.  I think it is as worthwhile and honorable as any could be, and it looks fantastic.  I think you are awesome and someone I would wish to assist if able.

At the moment I was seeking to help people (especially new members) with monotonous, mind numbing tasks.  Repetitive: click, high-light, copy, click, paste, save changes, refresh, confirm, repeat.  Where some might find those tasks boring or daunting when dealing with a thousand profiles or more, I find it relaxing.

I'll see if you still think I can be useful after I get clear from any tasks I just bit off with this post.

So.... I'd love to help! (soon)
Yet here I am..... clicking around the Holocaust project with a google window open and an interpreter tab open.... trying to think of people I know who speak German.... :)

If I learn anything conclusive by accident I'll certainly let you know!

Hello Robert,  Just now saw this post sounds fantastic.  Maybe, you can help me when you get the time.  Imagine you got lots of people to take you up on this. Well, early on when I joined WikiTree I entered about 500 people from Ancestry.com and I just don't know how to clean up the Biographies any more than I have. Most, of them are open profiles. Just don't understand the GEDCOM mumbo jumbo. How in the world do you translate for references or sources on GEDCOM's.  What kind of a refenence or souurce is <span id='S321>  (or) 1875<ref name="Clarke">[[#$97|Clarke]]  I mean the GEDCOM information to me is like they are speaking Greek.  All of the people on My Watchlist I have Corrected and entered Names and Repaired Status Indicators, Checked out all the duplicates and Rejected and Merged all the names on My Watchlist as well.  Have entered and done Profile Improvements to the best of my ability on a lot of them.  Am absolutely stuck on cleaning them up. Are these the kinds of things you were talking about?  Please, Help, Help, if you can!  Please let me know on my profile page if you can help.  [Beebe-655|Barbara Jean (Beebe) Duren]

Hi Keith,

I may have asked you before, but, would love you to join the arborist project.   What is fun and different about the arborist project are the rabbit holes you can explore.   One day I am trying to find all the duplicates between Prather/Prater and Pratter families, and suddently, I am working a whole new Clark/Clerk/Clarke set of duplicates.

Let me know if you are interested....

Hmmm… I’m not sure whether to take you up on that or not. I’ve been beavering away at copying in all my cousins and second cousins at various degrees of removal, working from notes originally made by my dad. He assigned codes to people, starting with his grandfather at 0, his oldest uncle at 01, then his oldest aunt at 02, and so forth. I’ve been wondering if it’s worth going through all the records and adding notations like, “Horatio is assigned code number 014211 in G.R. Slade’s genealogy system” (or something along those lines) into the Sources section. If you’re looking for tedious, this should certainly qualify. I just don’t know if it’s even worth doing.
