Hi All,

Please help.

Francis Jane Mackie Nee Nicholas, 1879-1954

I have her parents as Edward Nicholas and Mary Ann Sidebottom

Birth place Lithgow NSW 1879.

Married William Mackie in New Zealand 1906.

Is she the Mary Ann Nicholas parents Edward Nicholas and Mary Ann Hicks born United Kingdom, immigrated to New Zealand?

Looking on ancestry.com trees  have Edward Nicholas and Mary Ann Hicks having  daughter’s  Francis and Mary Ann  born Uk, then moved to Australia and then had two daughters of same again.

Refer to profile  Nicholas-1261 awaiting merge.

Also profile manager 1281 Also has the Cornwall Nicholas family, obviously not sure who is who!!

Please help!!

Ancestry trees are not reliable because they frequently aggregate individuals of the same name. The Redruth Frances Jane Nicholas was born in 1869 and probably died in 1875. I say probably because her death record has an age of 7 when she would have been 6 but there's no other qualifying birth so I think that's just an error.

Thx, I think she died age 7.

It appears that her parents then left uk and arrived NSW, Australia.

A Francis Jane Nicholas born 1879, orange , NSW, Australia.

Parents Edward Nicholas and Mary Ann Nicholas.

Mother nee hicks or Sidebottom?

I think it’s Mary Ann Sidebottom who married Edward Nicholas, Creswick vic, 1860.

Both originally uk, not sure if Edward travelled to Australia with the Sidebottom’s because no record found.

I have removed Mary Ann (Sidebottom) Nicholas (1839-1924) as mother of Frances Jane (Nicholas) Mackie (1879-1954). and Edward Nicholas (1835-1917) as father of Frances Jane (Nicholas) Mackie (1879-1954).
The marriage record posted on both the profiles of William Mackie and Frances Jane Nicholas married in 1902 clearly gives their correct parents' names.

William Mackie and Frances Jane were married on the 11th April 1902, their marriage registered in Wellington. He is recorded as 26 years old born in Waimate; a labourer living in Wellington. His father is recorded as James Mackie, a tailor. His mother is recorded as Jessie Mackie neé Morrison. Frances Jane Nicholas was 24 years old, born in Orange; a domestic servant living in Wellington. Her parents are recorded as Edward Nicholas  (a labourer) and Mary Ann Nicholas neé Hicks. Witnesses to their marriage were [[Mackie-1773|Eva Phillips]], wife of [[Phillips-31943|Frank Godfrey Phillips]] a railway porter in Wellington. (Eva is William Mackie's sister) <ref>details from marriage license held by PM</ref>
