I am looking for the parents of Dorcas "Dorcie" James.  She was born in VA in 1762.  Around 1786 in Hampshire County, VA (WV), Dorcas married Pvt. Samuel Bonnifield, Sr. (11 Apr. 1752-11 Feb. 1848) of Prince George's County, MD.  They had seven children, all born in Hampshire County, VA (WV).  The Bonnifield ultimately settled in Randolph County, VA (Tucker County, WV).  Dorcas died there in Oct. 1822, and was buried at the family cemetery in St. George, WV.

Dorcas was not a daughter of Thomas James III (b. abt. 1740) (b. abt. 1740) and his first wife, Elizabeth Basey, of Northumberland County, VA.  I found a book that disproves the connection, Thomas James (Clerk of Kingston Parish 1783-1961) Ancestry and Descendants, 1653-1961 by Elizabeth (Hogg) Ironmonger.  An outline of Thomas James III's people is on p. 44.

Another family I have looked at is that of David James, Sr. (abt. 1650-bef. 28 Aug. 1703) of Northampton County, VA.  Some of his descendants married into old English money.  Dorcas was not related to the David James family, however.  I think she may have been connected to a Rodham James who left a will on 23 Jul. 1802 in Hampshire County, VA (WV), given how one of the aforementioned Bonnifield boys was named "Rodham."
