Solomon Phillips lived in Gates Co., NC before settling in Edgecombe Co., NC. He is believed to have married Ann Jones of Gates Co.  He died intestate in 1797.  So far, DNA results have not tied him to any earlier Phillips.  It is possible that his name was changed.  He does not appear to be related to other major Phillips families in Edgecombe Co. in that era.

This is a Sons of the American Revolution application record.I have gone over it several times. Finally decided to send it anyway.Sons of the American Revolution

1889-1970. George David Whittinghill, son of Dexter Gooch ,Grandson of

David Whittinhill 1819-1902,Great Grandson Solomon Phillips,& Judah Cooney,

Great Great Grandson of John Phillips 1747-1777.

You give it some scrutiny. There is so little info on Solomon Phillips. There are

several family trees, but they offer little proof.

Thanks, Wayne.  Unfortunately, I don't believe I am connected with this Phillips family.  You are correct that there is little proof about Solomon's origins.  I can prove his connection to my ancestors through census and probate records, but I can't figure out how he got to Gates Co., NC or Edgecombe Co., NC.
