Do you hear the call of the wild?

The Wolfe Name Study is getting a re-boot and we need your help.

  • Would you like to discover more about the Wolfes in your family tree and how they connect you around WikiTree and around the world?

  • Does your favorite research location include Wolfe families?

  • Are you looking for an active One-Name Study to join?

We've got good news for you!

  • If you have Wolfes (Wolfs, Woolfs, Wulfs or others) prowling around in your genealogy forest and you're interested in collaborating on surname research, we need your input.

  • If you have ideas for research projects (geographical, chronological, occupational, etc.) that would improve the study, we need your contributions.

  • If you participate in a One-Place Study that covers a Wolfe location name, or has several Wolfe residents, we need your knowledge.

No official commitments or obligations are required; you can participate according to your own interests and availability.

Wolfe ancestors are calling: stop by and join the pack!

If I see any of mine that are related I'll be sure to add them to your study. I would request to join but I am not a direct descendant and I have a few studies under my care already.
by Christine Preston G2G6 Mach 6 (65.5k points)

That's great Christine! (I definitely know what it's like to have too many irons in my genealogy fire.laugh)

Any contributions you can make will be greatly appreciated. And who knows - if Wolfes are in your FAN club (friends, associates and neighbors of your ancestors), hopefully we can serve as a future resource for you as well.

I have a book that you may be interested in with some Wolf's in the Lycoming County, Pa area it is out of print but it has a bunch of people in it for the study. It was written by Spencer Kraybil and is called Pennsylvania's Pine Creek Valley and Pioneer Families. There's 48 pages of Wolf's in there. I will work to get them added for you. If you want them under your care let me know as well since I always try to give them to family closer than myself, I think there's a few who married into my tree line or a cousin's line so I'll work on it for the project. :) I havent fully explored their side yet.
That sounds fantastic. I think it would also be a great idea for us to get that book set up in the WikiTree Source Library. I'll PM you and we can discuss it further.

Thanks!

I’m interested in participating.  My paternal Great Grandmother was Maggie Wolfe.  She lived her entire life in Dungannon, Virginia and married Ben Culbertson.  I haven’t worked on this line of the family in awhile.  It will be good to get back into it.  Let me know how I might help.  Thank you!

Always great to hear from fellow Appalachia Project members, Laura! I've added you to our Wolfe member list and will send you a PM.

I have many Wolfe and Wolf in my line and I will check this study out but I am not able to join. I am working on my Stoughton line and have limited time. Thank you for doing this.
by Kathi Stoughton-Trahan G2G3 (3.3k points)
That's perfectly okay Kathi. Any contributions you make to the Wolfe/Wolf family branches in WikiTree are appreciated whether you are officially working with the study or not (and increasing their connections by building out other lines is a wonderful contribution).

Our goal is to grow the study into a resource for researchers like you, as well as provide opportunities to participate actively in that growth. Don't hesitate to reach out to me at any time with your ideas on how the study can assist you!

I have Wolf, Wolff, Wolfe ancestors in my family tree. my g-g-g grandfather was Valentine Wolff from Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. I go all the way back to George Wolf who came into the United States through Philadelphia.

Thanks Eleanor. Original US immigrants are one of the sub-projects we're looking at developing. Be sure to stop by the study page to sign up if you're interested in contributing to the project!

Wolfe is a common name in Australia but I'm unable to find anyone working on the Wolfe lines here, but I can start a few profiles off to get things started.
by Roy Tonkin G2G Astronaut (3.4m points)

Sorry, misread this. The Wolfe Name Study does not include Australia.

Hi Roy,

No - you haven't misunderstood at all. Name Studies on WikiTree encompass everyone who wants to participate. We don't have any categories set up yet for Australia, simply because we haven't had any researchers before you volunteer to work on some. It would be wonderful if you could contribute in that way. I'll send you a PM to find out what location cats you might want. Thanks!

Thank you, Mel. yes

I am going to help out by adding all the Wolfe information I have from my GG Grandfaters line.  Wolfe-1650 up and down. Hope this helps you. Will start tomorrow as my eyes are gone for today.

That's awesome Kathleen - it will be nice to get some Tennessee and Texas profiles into the project. Thanks so much!

Hi Mel, I have joined and just want to mention that I have lots of documentation on my direct Wolfe line of my great grandmother Wolfe who resided in eastern KY, her father Reuben Dewayne Wolfe b. 1824 Scott Co., VA; d. 1890 Missouri and his first wife Louemma Easterling.  Reuben's parent's were Jacob Wolfe and Jalah Stallard. I have a family book written by Beverly U. Wolfe that contains the whole family history/tree.  I have made familial connections with many of my distant cousins while trying to research my Wolfe line.  It has been a great adventure.
by Sandi Compton G2G2 (2.1k points)
Thanks Sandi, your contributions will be a great asset to the project. If you think you might want to create a sub-page for the Decendents of Jacob Wolfe, give me a shout and we'll see what we can do.

This would be another great book to get added to the WT Source Library. Let me know if I can help set that up as well.

Will be happy to join this effort. My Wolf/Wolfe line started in Germany, into SC, NC, WV area, then concentrated in Northeast Tennessee (Grainger, Campbell, Union, Claiborne, Hancock, Hawkins counties) and moved into Texas in the early 1900's.
by George Wolf G2G Crew (350 points)

Wonderful George! Let me know if you need any specific categories for your research, or if I can do anything else to assist you. smiley

I have Wolffs (my ancestors) and Wolfs( (not my ancestors, as far as I know) in my new one place study that is getting off the ground for St John's Evangelical and Reformed Lutheran Church in Black Creek, Outagamie, Wisconsin, USA. My study is very much in its infancy, but as I come across each of the Wolffs and Wolfs located there, I'll be sure to link them in to the one name study as well. Thank you!
by Darlene Harbick G2G6 (8.4k points)
Thanks Darlene - that's great! I added a link to your OPS on our ONS page.

Are you still looking for volunteers for the Wolf, etc study? If so, what does this encompass?

My Wolfe line recently is from Akron, Ohio. Prior to that they lived in the Jackson County, WV and Bellmont County, Ohio area. I believe they may have been from Quaker lineage, but I have not quite confirmed. I believe they came from Loudin county, VA in the early 1800s. I'd be interested to help how I can. but my time is limited.

My MiL's maiden name is Wolfe and her family is from Barry County, Michigan. I need to get more of their profiles on Wikitree, so this is a great motivator!

Hi Mel,

I really don't know how to use this site very well but will add as many Wolf's to my tree as I can. My Grandfather was a Wolf from Outagamie County in Wisconsin.
by T Stratton G2G Rookie (290 points)
Hi! I, too, am working on Wolf's and Wolff's in Outagamie County. I'm guessing our research is likely to overlap at some point, and I'm looking forward to finding out where. I'd be happy to help you learn about WikiTree as you go.
Thank you that sounds great. My Grandfather Louis Wolf was born in Ellington, Wisconsin in 1892.
