Why aren't full brothers Perkins-16450 and Perkins-16446 showing same degrees?

I am related to Ulysess Grant Perkins (Perkins-16450) and John Thomas Perkins (Perkins-16446).  They are full brothers with the same parents.  Ulysess shows being 15 degrees from me while John Thomas shows being 6 degrees from me.

Different pathways.  For me, one goes by way of my maternal line, the other by my paternal line.

Did you mean Ulysses shows being 5 degrees (not 15)?

The connection finder works on two types of relations - birth and marriage. Birth is for parents/children, and marriage is for spouses (this is where the connection groups change colors).

  • A connection from you to your sibling is 1 degree.
  • A connection from you to your Mother is 1 degree.
  • A connection to your Uncle (Mother's brother) is 2 degrees.
Now, if you were truly seeing 15 degrees instead of 5 for Ulysses - there was definitely something going on there (like the system had not yet updated the connections after adding/changing a relationship, or maybe an incorrect ID typed in).

I believe the 15 was a typo.  In checking, it is 5 degrees.
Thanks for confirming that, I was thinking that may be the case.
The reason John is one degree farther away is because the pathway goes by way of Ulysess and HIS son.

John Perkins →✖Ulysess Perkins (his brother)→✖George Perkins (his son)→✖Sallie Duncan
(his wife)→✖Luther Duncan (her brother)→✖Martha Duncan (his daughter)→K King (her daughter)
I clicked in the actual degrees circle and it updated to the number "5".  <smile>  Thanks everyone for your help.
