We hope we've finally isolated our ancestor to South Carolina (maybe not), but we're reasonably sure he was a private in the American Revolution. Here's what we found:

Richard Harvey fought in the Revolutionary war in South Carolina in the 3rd[1] and 5th regiments.[2]He was a private. There was a Captain Harvey, however, at this time there is no known relation between Richard and Thomas.[3]

Further research is needed to see if this source belongs to the Richard on this profile. (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSFF-LR6W)? "United States Rosters of Revolutionary War Soldiers and Sailors, 1775-1783," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:7V6V-C4PZ : 1 March 2021), Richard Harvey, 23 Jun 1785; citing Military Service, South Carolina, United States, Citing various published state rosters, United States; FHL microfilm 103140765.

but then there's the link Revolutionary War Soldier Index for NC and SC (ourfamtree.org)
