It may take some time to get used to sourcing profiles. I'll give you an example below on one way to do this. It all has to do with <ref>............<ref/> This is how I do it, although others are more computer literate and probably have shortcuts.
At the top of a profile you use == Biography ==
At the end of the profile I use: == Sources ==
== Footnotes ==
<references/>
Then when you use sources, they are placed after
== Sources ==
* Vital Records of Concord Massachusetts to the Year 1849, George Tolman, T. Todd Printers, Printed by the Town, 1901
* The History of Concord Militia by JQ Public, Boston, 1818
== Footnotes ==
<references/>
When you type them in the biography you use the start and end tags
<ref> .... </ref>
If you use a source only once, it would look like this:
Chris Hoyt was born at Concord MA on June 1, 1640, daughter of ........ <ref>Vital Records of Concord Massachusetts to the Year 1849, George Tolman, T. Todd Printers, Printed by the Town, 1901</ref> (that would then appear in the footnotes)
If you use a source more than once you use something like this the first time: <ref name=.....>
Chris Hoyt was born at Concord MA on June 1, 1640, daughter of ........ <ref name=VR>Vital Records of Concord Massachusetts to the Year 1849, George Tolman, T. Todd Printers, Printed by the Town, 1901</ref>
When you want to repeat that source in the text you just use <ref name=VR /> with each subsequent use: (note: here you add an ending /, and there is a space before the /)
Chris Hoyt was born at Concord MA on June 1, 1640, daughter of ........ <ref name=VR>Vital Records of Concord Massachusetts to the Year 1849, George Tolman, T. Todd Printers, Printed by the Town, 1901</ref>
She was in the Concord Militia in 1655 during disputes with the Indians. <ref>The History of Concord Militia by JQ Public, Boston, 1818</ref>
She died at Concord on June 1, 1699. <ref name=VR />
Children, all born at Concord:
Joe born June 1, 1660; died July 2nd 1660. <ref name=VR />
Mary born August 1, 1661; married John Brown at Concord on June 1, 1680. <ref name=VR />
It doesn't matter what you use for the "name" it could be <ref name=Concord> or <ref name=Tolman>
Then all the sources will appear in the footnotes section.
Try it on your own profile, just to see the results. If you have trouble, you can always ask on G2G and people more literate than I in computer jargon will help you out. Usually when something doesn't come out right, it's because I didn't space it correctly, or forgot the ending /, or put the / in the wrong spot.
I hope I haven't totally confused you, and scared you away.
