Toddlin' Tortoises Team Chat for the 2023 Source-A-Thon

Do you feel guilty that you are dragging down your usual 'Thon Team, because "everyone else" is doing 300 profiles to your one?  (I know I have done.)

Do you even avoid signing up for 'Thons because you just "work so slowly" that you fear YOU will be the reason they fail to come in the top five?  (I've felt this way, too.)

Do you want to participate, but avoid doing so for the above (or any other) reasons, and then live vicariously by hitting refresh on g2g to see what everyone else is doing?

Then WELCOME to the Toddlin' Tortoises Team — where we don't care if you are slow because you are thoroughly adding as much information as you can find, and verifying it all.  We are committed to a "whole profile approach" ideal — where we don't just add a source to satisfy requirements, and think "I'll come back later and fill the rest in" (because we almost never do — due to rabbits and squirrels and shiny things).  Our Team's commitment is to make each profile as "complete" as we can do at the time of creation (because no profile is ever "complete").

We don't care if the best you can do is a single profile.  If that's all you can manage, then that is your best!

If you haven't already registered for the Source-a-Thon (29th September — 2nd October 2023), then this other thread is where you do that.  Be sure to click the  "button", and say which Team you'd like to join.

If you'd like to be a part of this Team, just say you want to play with Hertyl and Spertyl, or "I'd like to be a Tortoise", or "I want to Toddle along", or anything else that will identify the Tortoises Team as the one you wish to join.

Do be sure to click that large answer button, and not the comment link, as that won't count – and don't reply to someone else's answer, as that won't count, either.

You can even ensure I get your name on the Team's list by returning here and posting to let me know!

Check the Team's main page for Team info, my silly images, and maybe more (if I think of anything, or you do).  Once I add your name to the current Team List, you could also add what you plan to be working on, and any resources, or hints, that you think will be helpful to others.

Want to see how the Team is doing so far?   Are we still in last place?  Are you a Hare among the Tortoises?  A link to the tracker will be posted once it is available.

If you have questions, comments, suggestions, or just want to "touch base" as you plod along, feel free to answer this post — or just post a comment, if that's your thing.

Remember — the goal is to HAVE FUN while enhancing the overall health of the Tree.  It doesn't matter if we come last.  In fact, if we DO come last, we'll have made every other Team look good!  (Who could ask for more?!)

Also — if you listen in to the Live Chats at all, please don't be discouraged when they talk about "several hundred sources", because that may not be reflective of what is.  I may be showing on the tracker with 5 profiles edited, but I may have added 15 sources to one, 11 to another, 8 to another, 23 to another, and 4 to another.
It's not about the numbers, it's about making things BETTER!

Just a reminder — this event is NOT automatically tracked / scored.  You MUST click the tracker "button" that appears at the top of the profile after you have saved your edits, and before you leave the profile.

Once having clicked the Challenge Tracker, select the Source-a-Thon checkbox, if it's not already automatically selected.
Remember, too, it doesn't matter if you add one source, or twenty sources, the edit only counts once — even if you make multiple edits to add extra sources.

                            One profile = one point.

As with previous Sauce-a-Thons, once your "racing bib" has been awarded, I will be adding Hertyl and Spertyl to the images.  if you wish to display the Slowsky-fied bib on your own profile, check the Team's member list to see if yours is there yet.

Pretty much it would look like this (this image is my last year's bib (I was much faster in responding last year)), and the code you would use is the following, but with the correct image-id# instead of the xx, and your bib# in place of the xxx.

[[Image:ToddlinTortoisesSource-xx.png|175px|2023 Source-a-Thon "racing bib" #xxx, with Hertyl and Spertyl in the upper left, and lower right corners holding spoons full of sauce.]]

I am up to date with adding the Slowsky pair to this Thon's bibs (bib# 520), so if there are those of you who like to put such on your profiles, see the explanation above.
I don't see a link to a Discord channel..might be too fast tech for Herty and Sperty though....?
Are you on discord in the main WT server?

Never mind.  I pinged Julie R and Eowyn in the general Thon channel.  smiley

Well, another Thon has come and gone.

Thanks to all who participated.  Thanks, also, to all those on the various other Teams, especially all those new Teams this time around.  Every one of you is a Wonderful WikiTreer!

Look forward to Toddling with fellow Tortoises. Will have to be reminded about the challenge tracker.

Remembering to click the tracker will be a mini challenge all of its own!

Melanie,

I love your graphics! Can I use the bib with tortoises on it for the sticker which counts the source a thon? I am bib #207 and the image# is 75.

I’ve tried several versions on my profile but haven’t got the bib photo with the tortoises to show up.

I haven’t deleted any of them yet so you can see what I’ve tried.

Please show me what I need to change. Thank you!

So sorry, Sue, I missed your question because I was still en route to my son's place (and am still somewhat discombobulated due to travel).

What you need for the bib image to show up in the sticker is the actual image ID# (which is kinda like a profile ID# - unique to each image).  In your case it is ToddlinTortoisesSource-75.png

Melanie,

Thank you so much.  I entered it wrong about ten times before I got it right, but it looks good now. I hope that it does the counting part.

Sue

YAY!
I am so happy you got it to work.  smiley

Just a reminder to those thinking of registering.  If you have not yet done so, now is the time, as we have only a little under two days left before registrations close.  (Midnight US Eastern on Wednesday.)

If you know of anyone else who may have been thinking about it, but they've been procrastinating following rabbits, let them know time is running out!
They don't even have to sign up with us.  There are a number of Teams still with fewer than 10 members (some of them brand new), so encourage folk to give those Teams a boost!  The full list of current Teams is here.

Registrations closed about 3 hours ago, so anyone not already on the roster will have to wait until January.

Melanie,

I watched Eowyn and Julie’s old video on tracking the source-a-thon but I have a question. On OUR TEAM do we need to name every source we added or just one on the challenge tracker?

What do you mean by "name every source"?
On the challenge tracker there are the comment hints. Julie added census record (1900) for her source.

If we add birth source, death source, marriage date source and 4  different census years. Do we list each of them?

Sue
Ahh, no, just one.
Thanks
