Did Erik Eriksson Small have a daughter named Catharina Ericsdotter who married Carl Johansson in 1781?

So during the last Family Search Roots Tech week I had found a cousin who lives in Brazil who has Swedish roots.  Family Search has us as 7th cousins via a common ancestor of Erik Eriksson Small.

I was going to start adding the profiles to connect to this cousin into WikiTree but starting out I have a question on the validity of the Family Search profile / tree / records.

So the question is did my ancestor Erik Eriksson Small have a daughter named Catharina Ericsdotter who married Carl Johansson in 1781?

On Family Search it currently shows that Erik Eriksson and his wife Brita had six children.  With a daughter named Catharina born on 28 August 1763, who died on 11 October 1839.

Though on Geni the profile for Erik Ersson has him and his wife Brita having a daughter named Katarina who was born on 13 February 1763 and passed away on 22 Feb. 1819.

And on Geni it has Katarina married to a Olof Andersson.

So it appears we have two different people named Catharina and Katarina who are listed as marrying different men.

Probably Family Search has Catharina connected to the wrong parents.  Actually it looks like she has two sets of parents listed on her Family Search profile.  The other set of parents are Eric Ersson Lindberg and Karin Parsdotter who were married in 1762.

So if anyone is able to find any records that show who the correct parents for Catharina are that would be a big help.  I will post the links below.

Thanks!

Erik

The best way to confirm this would be to go to the source... the Swedish National Archive.  FamilySearch and Geni are relying on what other people have found, or guessed, or made up.  I didn't look at the Geni profiles but the FamilySearch profiles have no sources linked to them.

Start here: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/kyrkoarkiv?Lan=Norrbottens%20l%C3%A4n&Arkiv=SE%2FHLA%2F1010154&Serie=0&PageSize=100&page=1#tab

I briefly looked for Catharina's birth record but didn't find it.  Really what you want is to get some kind of starting point in the archives that you can branch out from, whether that's Catharina or one of her parents or siblings, or someone more recent that you can work back from.  I can help with that but I'm headed out the door in a few minutes.  I'll try to remember to check back here when I have time this evening.

You can get a lot out of the records without knowing Swedish, so don't let that scare you off.

I traced down and the first descendant that I found with primary sources was [[Michaelsdotter-28|Erica Michaelsdotter (1830-1916)]], a great granddaughter of Erik Smäll.  (I realized afterwards that I should have followed a path that led towards you, instead of a somewhat distant cousin.)  From Erica's birth record that you had included in her profile I was able to find the first household record she appeared in, which includes her parents and paternal grandfather.  I added that to her profile but it should also be added to the profiles of the rest of her family who appear in it.  From there you can keep marching back in time, alternating between birth records to confirm parents' names and household records to confirm parents' birth dates.  Speaking of that, Erica's father's birth date in his profile doesn't match the date in the household record.  The next step would be to find her father's birth record (and clear up that discrepancy) then using the village name that should be listed there, find him with his parents in the household records.

I like to include all of the household records so I've got an unbroken line from birth to death, but skipping your way back as I've described is a quick way to confirm what you found on the other sites.

There were at least two Catharina Ericsdotters born in Piteå in 1763.

1. February 13 born to Eric Ericsson and Brita Ericsdotter

2, August 28 born to Eric Linberg and Carin Persdotter.

Both Geni and FamilySource are secondary sources and are known to have errors.  In this situation, I would trust Geni since it is used by many Scandinavians.  I would include it in the profile by saying:

===Online Resources===

* '''Geni:''' [https://www.geni.com/people/Katarina-Eriksdotter/6000000081326633877  Katarina Eriksdotter]

This would allow a link to that resource.

Here is the family in Hortlax. Wife Brita's mother is living with them and Catharina, born 1763, is there. Catharina's birth record,  born February 13 in Hortlax (listed above) makes sense.
