Looking for Civil War story of Daniel Jefferson Smyers (Smyers-24)

I once located a story about my ancestor Daniel Jefferson Smyers (Smyers-24) and his time in the Civil War. From what I recall it detailed that he was left for dead in a hospital camp because he was very ill, but her recovered and was discharged from the Union Army and then went on to outlive most of his children. I have lost that reference. It could have been in a book about the Smyers family, but I have also not been able to find any reference to that book online now. Any help would be appreciated.

I see a Fold3 file for him.  It is a summary file, not his original CMSR file. That file says he was a POW. If you do not have a Fold3 file, I can add the information from the file to his profile for you.

The file does not have a reference to the family book.

Hi Brian

I updated the his profile with a short bio (can be improved upon), his FindAGrave memorial with category, the civilwardata source, and civil war sticker. Hope this helps laugh

Maybe he has an obit?

Edit: found an obit entry added source and link

Found this little bio with the variant last name Smeyers:

https://www.google.com/books/edition/History_of_Jefferson_county_Pennsylvania/ow0UAwAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=Daniel%20J.%20Smeyers&pg=PA743&printsec=frontcover

With the variant last name Smeyres - https://www.google.com/books/edition/Commemorative_Biographical_Record_of_Cen/OAtZAAAAYAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&bsq=Smeyres&dq=Daniel%20J.%20Smeyers&printsec=frontcover

In the 63rd Congress the Senate Bill S3733 appears to have to do with a pension increase for Daniel J. Smeyres.  I can find the index (Sessional Indexes to the Annals of Congress - Google Books) but not the text of the bill itself.  This might have some interesting information associated with it from committee reviews.

Could it be the brief bio in the Commemorative Biographical Record of Central Pennsylvania (in the entry for his father)?

It's available on HathiTrust  here

What a great source! Nice workyes

This gets the gist of the story for sure. But the account I remember talks about how he was left by the confederates for dead and then was found by Union troops and nursed back to health after his bout with typhoid. Thank you for the source and improvements to the profile!
