Are you certain John Manning died in the USA? Citation incorrect

The USA article included on this profile is written by JOHN H. CARMANY.
What other evidence is there of his death in the United States?

I believe John Manning returned to Ballarat and became a publican in 1869. The site has since become a a mechanic garage in Black Hill along the Eureka Trail, on the corner of Rowe and Peel Street N.

Hi James. Welcome to G2G.

Your link has extraneous characters on the end: try

But where on the page do you want us to look?

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply!

- 6th column "Miscellaneous notices"
- 4th notice down.

I haven't been able to follow any of the citation to confirm his death. And this page has conflicting statements, claiming John Manning died in both New Zealand and the USA in 1868. Is it possible he came back to Ballarat? This notice in 1869 makes it seem likely, although I'm willing to be convinced otherwise.

Thanks again for your prompt response.

Here's a more useful link, direct to the notice.

What makes you think it was the same John Manning? It's a common name. Men of that name died in Ballarat in 1885 and 1889.

Edited to add: Correction, both were young boys, not men. But it shows that the name was common.

Thanks again for your response. I ask the question, rather than knowing the answer after doing research and finding conflicting evidence in this wiki. I question this as:
- I researched other John Manning's before making this enquiry and although it is a common name, it wasn't common in Australia at this time. Although this J.M. wasn't the only John Manning in Australia, their ages or date of death rule them out from being able to be a publican in 1869.
- This submission has John Manning's death being after 1868 (not preciously) in both the USA and NZ. It seems uncanny that John Manning appears in 1869 in Ballarat; I can't find any death notices (please share if you can).
 - The citation is possibly incorrect with author in the article published, as the only byline in the text I can find acknowledges JOHN H. CARMANY. Furhermore it is published in 1869, rather than 1868 and if there are international journal articles by John Manning after this date, it does necessarily indict his location, just where they were published, he was after-all a renowned journalist.

Furthermore John Manning was known as an Australian Journalist, a reporter for the Ballarat times, credited on Eureka Wiki with: "His vivid written eyewitness account makes him Australia's first war correspondent" rather than this page stating: Summary; "John Manning (died 1868) was a New Zealand journalist, Irish nationalist, newspaper proprietor and newspaper editor. He was born in Ireland." [3]

A John Manning born about 1828 died in Williamstown (VicBDM death 11126/1905), and another, born about 1833, died in East Melbourne (5729/1911). I can't see any other deaths in Victoria that could match.

It will take some digging. I would rule out a death in California first before returning to research a path back to Australia.

I found this in Ireland in an Imperial World.

... John Manning, the editor of the nationalist newspaper the New Zealand Celt, were indicted for ‘seditious libel’ Following release from prison, Manning left for California and Larkin ‘slipped quietly into obscurity’.19

Their source for Manning is this: Fraser, Castles of gold, 145. For more on these events, see Davis, Irish Issues in New Zealand Politics, 11–24.

Some of the wording on the profile should probably be changed. Like the research note that said he died in 1868, which is not known and is unlikely.
