Mary Tickle - Where did she come from and where did she go?

Looking for any information on my 3rd ggm Mary Tickle who married Leonard Marsh.

I can't find any birth or death records for her and in the 1881 census her age seems to have dropped considerably.

Any help appreciated.

Mary may have died in 1875 Northwich

Leonard married Mary Shone 12th Feb 1881 Chorlton-upon-Medlock

Mary Shone baptised 22nd Feb 1829 Bidstone (Bidston)

i would assume that 'Woverall' is actually Wirral

Brilliant, thanks Allan. It's starting to make a bit more sense now I know he remarried! I had a notation for a death date of 8 February 1875 in Northwich for Mary but when I saw Mary on the 1881 census assumed that death date was wrong.

So that explains where she went ......... now I just need to figure out where she came from!
I have found the marriage record and a christening record for 22 Feb 1829 in Bidstone - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NH9J-R77 and also a death record for the same date, location and parents - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FQRN-5LM.

I wonder if she may be this Mary Shone instead? https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N52N-5ZN
There is a Mary Shone daughter of William Shone occupation Coach Builder - but she is living with her parents in the 1881 census in Chester.

There is a Richard Tickle witness to the marriage of Mary Tickle to Leonard Marsh.

I would also suggest that you include the places of Waverton and Hargrave as possible locations for the birth of Mary Tickle.
Thanks Allan. I guess I can add Mary Shone with just a marriage record and someone may be able to join the dots in the future.

Thanks for the tip about Richard Tickle and other locations to search. I'll see what I can come up with.
I found a very interesting census record which i have added to the Research Notes for Mary Tickle

and there was a marriage of William Shone to Martha Tickle 1st Dec 1825 Chester

Okay, the plot thickens!

There seems to be nothing straight forward about researching this whole Marsh branch. Probably doesn't help trying to tackle it from the other side of the world either!

Thanks for all of your help with this smiley

it looks as though the second wife was the niece of the first wife
Hmmmmm so maybe quite a bit younger than William then? He only lasted two years after marrying her!
Would that make her the daughter of Richard Tickle or do we now have someone new to add in to the mix? Or was she a niece on Leonard's side?
this is what i think :-

Hannah married either a John or Richard Tickle about 1800 somewhere around Chester.

They had several children including a Mary Tickle (born about 1813 in Tattenhall)

the subject of these replies.

and a Martha Tickle (born about 1803 in Tattenhall)

Martha Tickle married William Shone in 1825 and they had a daughter Mary Shone (born about 1829 Wirral)

So Mary Shone was the niece of Mary Tickle and both were at some time married to Leonard Marsh.

I have added a few more census records to the research notes.

Unfortunately i can not find any baptism records for the Tickle children in or near to Tattenhall - maybe the parents did not believe in baptizing their children.
The marriage certificate of Thomas Tickle to Maria Mealor (1838) gives his father's name as John Tickle (Farmer)

and there is a marriage of a John Tickle to Hannah Saddler 29th Nov 1802 in Waverton.

John Tickle born about 1765 (Farmer), Hannah Saddler born about 1774
Thanks Allan. I will delve into all of that great info a bit later in the day, and, fingers crossed, I might actually be able to make some progress with this mystery.

Great stuff. I have added a profile for Maria Mealor and will now try and connect the Tickles to that.
