I am confident this is the same James S Baird as noted in the military service record. Would like to find out more information such as burial location, anything concerning how he died or his death, and promotions.

I've added a few sources to the profile. If I have the right person, he's not your Samuel James Baird. Sorry.

The National Archives has military records including the Civil War. Not all of these are available in Family Search, but searching the National Archives is not as easy.

Andrew,

I don't think that is the guy. That soldier was buried James Sloan Baird, son of James Baird and Mary (Sloan) Baird. Fiind a Grave Memorial ID 17884250

Also census records do not match.

James Sloan Baird in 1860 Census

I agree so we can rule out this man as the match

The Familysearch bio reads:

When James Sloan Baird was born about 1835, in Derry, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania, United States, his father, James Baird, was 44 and his mother, Mary Sloan, was 47. He lived in Derry Township, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania, United States in 1860. He died on 19 June 1864, in Gettysburg, Adams, Pennsylvania, United States, at the age of 30, and was buried in Blairsville, Indiana, Pennsylvania, United States.

Per civilwardata He died of disease on 6/5/1864

However FindAGrave and Familysearch has him deceased June 19, 1864.

Even more interesting it’s saying Gettysburg however the battle was fought June 1-3 in 1863.

Gravestone is challenging to read but seems to spell out Gettysburg in bottom section of stone

Record of Interments in newsclip for Blairsville Cemetery dated October 29, 1897 see Here

Edit: after looking at his gravestine again the bottom portion doesn’t seem to say Gettysburg but illegible.

Added James Sloan Baird (1835 - 1864) to Wikitree so research can continue without conflation for this veteran needs research

Thanks I am closing this question, Thanks for creating profile for the Correct [erson.
