Have you checked the 1881 and 1891 census?  My apologies if you have already, but, just in case:

Hi Margaret

If you look at scottlandspeople.gov.uk you will find a Margaret (Porterfield) McDermott born 1881 who died in 1939 in Falkirk.

I did a quick search but did not look at the results. Let me know if you need any further help.

It is a subscription website but the data is from official Scottish records.
