Archibald Macdonald of Tarsquiveg (Tarskavaig) is recorded in ‘Clan Donald’ By Donald J. MacDonald of Castleton as a cadet branch of James M’Donald (SLEAT). Archibald 1650-1678 is eighth child of James M’Donald, CD V111 page 472. He would have had family and subtenants, their names and his rent books are not to be found.
1673 Angus MacDonald of Tarskavaig appears on record. CD V111 page 520. Alexander MacDonald of SLEAT, 1711 – 1746 left Archibald Macdonald of Tarskavaig, the sum of £252 Scots, conforms to a bill drawn by the said Sir Alexander Macdonald upon and accepted by him, dated the 6th of September, 1746, and payable the 15th of May, 1747. In 1748 Archibald, a factor of SLEAT was styled as Captain Macdonald of Tarskavaig. Reference CD V111 page 543.
It has been confirmed by Maggie McDonald (Clan Donald centre, Armadale.) Archibald MacDonald was the tacksman of Tarskavaig beag on the Sleat peninsula during the 1730’s
(This is now modern Tarskavaig).
McDonald of Tarskavaig has been lost in history. Has anybody got more information after 1700's?
