My first American Pelletier ancestor was Jeremiah J(G)erome Pelletier. b.approx 1720 d.1800. His brother Peter still lived on his Plantation in Aux Cayes, Saint Domingue (present day haiti) when Jerome came to Carteret County North Carolina (approx 1780)and died 1790. The book "One Dozen North Carolina Families" by Primrose Fisher states that Jerome came to this County on his own ship wearing a naval Uniform. I have not been able to find any Military records and the copy of Peter's Will to his brother Jerome was lost in a Courthouse fire.
I know there is a tenuous connection with the trade routes between New England, the tropics and coastal North Carolina. We suspect that he may have been a privateer, pirate or rum runner and not a naval officer. Open to any leads and not afraid of any skeletons that might pop out of the closet. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
