I posted the Header question "How to resolve issues with partially similar Profiles?" 8 months ago, 7, months ago PM's Merged several O'Beolan profiles into De Ross Profiles. Thus severing hereditary connection to the O'Beolan line. Since that time I have compiled a Family history. of De Ross, as Earls of Ross no significant historical detail was found. Of the Surname Ross there is Historical information. as Lords Ross of Hawkheid, Renfrewshire. an Anglo Norman family de Ros, (originally from Yorkshire). Ultimately in  the 18th century purchased the Barony house of Balnagowan and estate also becoming Chiefs of clan Ross. John Atkinson provided this link.[1319.16 Kal. May. Avignon. (f. 183d.) ]   To John de Ross and Margaret his wife,  of the diocese of Ross. Dispensation to remain in the marriage which they contracted in ignorance that they were related in the fourth degree. Their offspring past and future is declared legitimate. Research Substitute previous with "To John O'Beolan, and Margaret Comyn his wife"

t's an interesting post, but what are we supposed to do to help you?  It would be nice for you to link to a profile of interest so we don't have to search the Ross and/or De Ross surname lists (not to mention the o'Beolans.  Since I'm no expert on the subject in question I'd just suggest that some compromise solution be adopted.  Select the WikiTree surname based on majority rules of people with a real expertise in the subject.  Then create boilerplate to be attached to each affected profile outlining the other position(s).  Get said profiles protected and set up regular threads or on-line meetings to discuss anything new.  Make them 2-4 times a year.  Such collaboration might set a precedent for other areas where there are closely held positions which can't reach consensus.
