The Armijo family is very well documented in history. Here is a short bio, He was born in 1810. His parents were Juan Nepomuceno Armijo (13 Feb 1788 - aft 1830) and Maria Rosalia Ortega de Armijo (10 Apr 1789 - ? ). He married Juana Maria Chavez on Apr 17, 1830 in Isleta, Bernilillo County, NM. She was the daughter of Francisco Xavier II Duran y Chaves and Ana Maria del Carmen Alverez del Castillo. He became an investor and business man at an early age. In the early 1840's, he went to Saint Louis on a buying trip to enter the freighting business between Albuquerque and Chihuahua. After fighting the Navajos in the mid-1840's with the Mexican Army, he left the Mexican Army and joined the New Mexico Militia, then part of the US Army, in 1846. He advanced to the rank of Colonel. In 1851, he was a member of the First Territorial Legislature of the New Mexico Territory. He continued serving the US Army through the Civil War (1861-1865). He and his brother, Ambrosio Armijo, owned the 500 acre Los Poblanos Ranch through most of the 19th Century. His family home, known as "Hacienda del Lago," is located at 207 Griegos Rd., NE, Albuquerque and is posted to the National Register of Historic Places. His portrait, and that of his wife, can be seen at the Branigan Cultural Center in Las Cruces, NM. He died on Dec 27, 1884 in Albuquergue.
