Is there a way to search through a database? This site is not very user friendly.

I don't think it's a database like you have in mind.  It's more like a blank chalkboard and you need to fill-in your own family with information and sources you find somewhere else.  Often, you'll find relatives and ancestors that someone else has already added, especially the further back in time you go.

Try https://familysearch.org/search/ and you can use the information and records you might find here.  Good luck!

There are http://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Beck

There are close to 4,000 with the Beck surname at WikiTree. You may want to browse through the names or post a specific genealogy question that you have.

This seems to be an old question but if someone finds it now, the search boxes at the top left of the page work well for finding specific people that are already in Wikitree.  There's a secondary system for searching other websites more likely to contain other historical records as well.
