The Goding family of Massachusetts and Maine needs help!!

In my efforts to locate unsourced profiles and add the unsourced tag, so we can find them easily during the Source-a-thon, I have come across a huge abandoned GEDCOM that contains many Goding families from Massachusetts and Maine, and other places.  The vast majority are unsourced and orphaned.  I have added the unsourced tag to a lot of them, but they just keep going and going!!  If you are looking for something to work on or have an interest in the Goding family, there are a lot of profiles in the unsourced category with that surname.  Heck, I may even try to tackle some of them after seeing so many with no information. Not like I need another project to work on!!   Going through all these profiles makes me realize how big the problem of unsourced profiles is and how important it is to have Sourcerers and the upcoming Source-a-thon.

Oh no! Not the Godings again.  I did a couple hundred back in 2016 and thought it was over. I’ll go back to it.

Thank you for adding "unsourced".  I have been doing the same.  Like you, I can't believe how many unsourced and orphaned profiles I keep coming across.  Thanks for your help.

Thanks for posting!

I just sourced Arthur Tuttle Goding - because he is the link to Kevin Bacon for a lot of people in Sweden, notably those connected to the Stockhaus line of smiths. I have sourced the Swedish part of the chain earlier, insofar as it was from the same abandoned branch of the tree. (I see that Magnus Sälgö has now provided some source images, which I don't have the right kind of patience for - thanks, Magnus). Arthur's wife still remains to be done.

Is this from the same Goding batch? The ones I come across seem to be entered manually in 2012, when unsourced profiles defaulted to "firsthand knowledge" of the manager.

Yes, I think he is from the same Goding family.  And yes, a lot of them were from 2012 and had firsthand knowledge on them.  I guess technically they were probably not from a GEDCOM, but since there were so many of them, I wondered who would have had the patience to enter each one manually!

Ah, THAT is the kind of patience I do have. I'm adding cartloads of profiles manually. With sources, though. As an old academic I'm kinda fond of them.

To say something for the Goding cluster: at least it seems well researched. As opposed to my least favourite old orphaned GEDCOM which is a Frankensteinian monster of family fragments grafted together.

I'll see if I get around to Arthur's wife today. If not today, then tomorrow.

Hi there!

Arthur Tuttle Goding (Sr.) is my great-grandfather. He and his wife had two children, a daughter named Phyllis (née Goding, married into Rammage family, my great-aunt), and a son, Arthur Tuttle Goding Jr. (my grandfather).

Arthur Jr. married Clara D'Angelo of Chester, PA and had five children: Lawrence, Paul, Andrea, David and Lisa.
Since the person who created that tree left WikiTree about five years ago there is nobody who has had reason to enter later generations here.

You would be very welcome to join Wikitree and connect up to what is already here.

I'll tackle the early Massachusetts members of the family.

I did get around to sourcing Arhur Tuttle Goding's wife Lillian, born Streed today. Also took a renewed look at Lillian's father, Carl Victor Streed. Noticed that there are several generations of Swedish ancestors for Lillian's mother. Will try to remember that when I need something to do.

Also discovered that Phyllis Goding, the daughter of Arthur and Lillian (who seems to be the link to the original creator of this whole batch of unsourced material) has been in wikitree but is now removed.

If it's helpful, Phyllis Goding married into the Rammage family in the mid-20th century. Phyllis' younger brother, Arthur Tuttle Goding, Jr., is my grandfather.

I accidentally stumbled on these during the last Source-a-thon.

I have sourced a few hundred of these.  There are 787 Godings in Wikitree.  Most uploaded in that abandoned GEDCOM.  I think all the ones marked as unsourced have either been sourced now or i have added Research Notes.  There are still a couple hundred not marked as unsourced and I'm working my way through them...and their unsourced spouses...and their unsourced children...

I may have reached the end of sourceable Godings:

Goding
787 in Wikitree:

  63 Unsourced
  13 Unsourced Maine
    4 Unsourced Massachusetts
  74 Locked

633 Sourced

I'll double check the 84 still unsourced.  I think I left Research notes for most of them, but...
