My father was an only child - Buckley 2287, when I entered his name it looks as though he has a sibling

John Walter Buckley was the only child for John and Ethel. On his profile it looks like he had a sibling named John. can I amend this?

Go to the edit page. On the right side, you'll see the "private" sibling under "mother". Click on add/edit. Page view goes to "private" then remove him.

If you think this private brother is actually the same person as your father, then you can merge the two profiles. We are not permitted to remove or delete profiles.

I'm sorry. I had read several discussions about removing someone who is the wrong mom or dad.  Remove/detach??

if you can access this private person, then go into edit mode, and over on the right, you should find his name and the option to add/remove. IF you choose to remove this will only unlink the person from your tree, but will not delete the profile altogether.

If you cannot access this person because he is private then you need to contact the other Profile manager, and either ask them to unlink their private person from your tree, or to explain why he was added and provide sources. and from there you an ask to be out on the trusted list and when that happens, then you can unlink him yourself. But make sure that you explain to the other PM what you are doing and why.

John and Jack are often interchangeable names. Looking at the profile, it shows as John Walter (Jack) Buckley. Birth name is John, but preferred name is Jack. Because of privacy, I cannot see the other profile, but it looks to me as if the two should be merged together. (After double checking obviously)

I do have his number and have requested to be on the trusted list, explained the situation etc. before I edit him. thank you for your help.
