Do you use an online mapping app to record your ancestor's locations?

I have been using Google Maps to star locations of my ancestors Birth, Marriage, Death and Burial locations.  But you can not put notes with the locations.

Do you use an online mapping program like google to keep track and record these locations.

I have used Google Earth but I want the accessablity of accessing online from other computers and internet connected devices.

So this G2G question pointed me to My Maps on Google. https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/250163/do-you-use-maps-in-your-genealogy.

And apparently I have used it before, back in 2013 when we went to Ireland.

What others are you aware of that you like?

The idea sounds intriguing however not sure I smart enough to figure that out
Thanks for this tip.

My ancestor James, b. in New Hampshire, moved to Nova Scotia.  He went to war in New York and carried his father home to New Hampshire on a stretcher.  He moved to Canada, married, and raised a family.  By 1832 the household had scattered:  James went to New Hampshire, one daughter to Wisconsin, his wife and daughter to Quebec (actually, the Madeleine Islands). Another daughter stayed in Nova Scotia.

I will check out this website soon.

My Maps (Google)

Ok, this is cool.  I can pin a specific location and name it with notes.

For example.  I can put a pin at the Bridge Street Cemetery in Northampton, MA and lable it Isaac Sheldon: Burial.  Then in the notes section, I can put a hyperlink to his profile on WikiTree and/or a link to Findagrave, and even a link to a Google Doc Spreadsheet with research notes for example.

I can then create separate pins for each ancestors, BMD and Burial.  Then when I travel to an area, I have a ready made list of who to be looking for.

Hmm...this could be fun to figure out ways to make this useful.

You could try this site... http://www.ancestralatlas.com/ancestral-atlas-genealogy-mapping-network.php

It is free, just set up an account. It does mean you have to input all your data, but it might be for you.

Thanks David, I will check it out.  Have you used it?
I did play with it a while back, but with it being a seperate place to put my information, I concluded that it would just double the amount of inputting I was doing.

Something that I will probably look at again though.
