Some records for Hessen are on Ancestry.com, but coverage is only partial.

All records are online here:. https://arcinsys.hessen.de/arcinsys/start.action?oldNodeid=,

Under Hessiches Staatsarchiv Marburg, then H Personenstandarchiv. Then a list of places will appear. Darmstadt (stadt) is near the top. However if you click through you'll see there were several suburbs. If you don't know the precise suburb, then you'll need to search all of them, though I recommend starting with the central city (Standesambt Darmstadt) first.  For a given suburb, go then to "geburtsregisters", then you'll see a list of the years available. The titles with "Namensverzeichnis" are alphabetical indexes for each year. This will list the name and certificate number for each child born. Then you can view the film for the year in which your ancestor's birth occured (note that usually there is a part I and a part II). With the certificate number you can find the record easily enough.

And look for Friedrich Hoffmann, not Fredrick.

I am having trouble following the directions.  My screens do not show this progression:   https://arcinsys.hessen.de/arcinsys/start.action?oldNodeid=,

I am trying to find a birth record for Eva Weber said to be born Hesse-Darmstadt most likely 1834 calculating backward from her death record and from what shows on US Census records.

She married in the USA in 1854 on April 1.  So she had left Germany by then.

I would appreciate any help in trying to determine her actual birth date, the names of her parents, and any siblings.

Consider that Hessen-Darmstadt was a country, not the city of Darmstadt alone. There is a listing of church books for the country Kirchenbücher und Standesregister für alle Wohnplätze im Land Hessen (1939) on GenWiki. That web page also states that microfilms are available through LDS. I don't know to what extent that translates into transcripts on FamilySearch.

Donna ~

The dates on Frederick A., William A. and Mary (Mallard) Hoffman's profiles appear to be off by quite a bit.  If you use the dates on the FAG memorial below, you should be able to find records @ FamilySearch.org.  Fred and Mary married in 1873, Peoria, Illinois.

I will post a couple from Ancestry also.

Note that the record Mary found on Frederick lists Bingen as the birthplace--it's not in Darmstadt city (stadt). Go west of Darmstadt until you find Bad Kreuznach (home of the US 1st Armored Division last I checked). Go north until you hit the Rhein river and there you'll find Bingen (also called Bingen am Rhein, or "Bingen on the Rhein/Rhine").

    Hi Donna

If you ancestor was protestant you find the scanned church books on www.archion.de/en (you have to subscribe to the Website to actually see the scans). They scanned the majority of German Protestant chruch books (and are still scanning). This side helped me a lot in finding my ancestors. However you should be able to read some old German (or have somebody who helps translating)

... I just saw, that he's from Bingen and not the city of Darmstadt. Than he's probably catholic and the indicated website won't help you. Sorry...
