Can you share more about William?  Town of residence in 1851 and 1871? Estimated birth year? Occupation?  Any bit of information might help locating and confirming a record.

Apologies for atrocious layout!

First is possible death for Glanvill junior, and second is a possibility for him in 1861 with his mother Stones family? He's picked up William somewhere along the line too though?

Excuse me, but where did "William" come from?  In the 1851 census he is called Glanvill Payne, and in the 1871 census he is called Glanvill Pain.  And the 1851 census shows more than 3 children: there is Mary Ann age 10, Glanvill age 8, Joseph age 5, and Ruth age 2.  Or have I got the wrong family?  In 1871 only Joseph is still at home, age 24 and a miner, but there is also a grandson called William H Cotton, age 14.

Is this the right family?

Found Joseph G Payne, age 14, on the 1861 census, working as a farm servant in Boskenna, St Buryan, Penzance (where his mother came from).  Farmer William Jelbert, Farmer Of 100 Acres Employing 4 Men & 2 Boys.

Now to find the others.

I must be getting good at this as I got the same as Ros, glad I was on the right track!

I'm stumped on the 1861 census though so I started going through enumeration district 1 for St Colomb Major by page!

An interesting notation a few pages in shows a vacant house, recently vacated by a family of 5. (Assuming Mary Ann aged 20 by then had moved out there would be 5 of them!)

Even more interestingly the address is the same road, listed in 1851 as Fore St and in 1861 as Fair St. Today you can see these are in fact the same road, the name changes about 1\2 way down!
