How are limits on Private Messages counted and is there a feedback response

It finally occurred to me that there is ambiguous feedback on what happens to Private Messages after a limit per day has been met.

Previously, a banner message would appear saying some to the effect that you have reached a limit and you message cannot be sent.

Lately, it appears that when PM is sent at or after a certain count, the PM is acknowledged as sent on screen, but no copy comes from noreply@, so one is left without knowing really what happened.

Could someone test out the functions of notifying users what happens around PM limits, how they are counted and then perhaps update this help spot which appears to have had few readers! http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Private_Messages

Woud it help to have norepy@ send a message when one composes a PM beyond suggesed limits.

Thanks,

Sandy

Hi Sandy,

I retested this and the limit is working properly for me.

If a message is sent, I see the "Message Sent" page and get the carbon copy.

If I have reached the limit, I see "You have already sent the maximum number of private messages today" at the top of the form when I try to send the 11th message.

I added more explanation to http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Private_Messages

Maybe you just weren't hitting the limit?

Thanks Chris for testing and improving the help text on Private Messages.

Nonetheless, late yesterday I sent two different requests to join profiles in my direct family line, saw the banner text that the messages were sent, and no carbon copy arrived as a response. Fortunately, the profile manager did get the message and responed  with two acceptances.

I have no other proof, just an informed hunch, and my repeated experience that something about the count of messages is causing a snafu in responses. Are you sure response PMs aren't counted as opposed to counting initiating PMs.

Sandy

Hi Sandy,

I see the confusion. Trusted List requests are completely separate. There is no limit on those, and they don't send the same carbon copies.

Chris
