'DNA connected' yet not related (as per 'relationship finder')

Question

I stumbled upon a profile (Mumford-444) that lists me as  DNA connected. The name was new to me so I clicked on the relationship finder icon. It said I am not related. I'm confused. Why am I DNA connected if not related? Can I fix it?

Something's definitely amiss. You aren't alone: of the DNA "possibles" shown on Mumford-444, the relationship finder also shows no connection between Nicholson-2331 and Ward-13369 to Mumford-444. And I see nothing in Mary Ann Mumford's descendant tree to indicate a Ward or a Nicholson is anywhere in there.

If no one shows up with a ready answer, a G2G moderator might want to add a Sysops tag to this one so the folks with the really big brains can take a look at it as a possible bug.

Not sure where to make this comment, but Elisha and Mary were my 11th GGParents and now they are not related to me according to the relationship finder. I am related to them through their son Abraham Estes who married Keziah Ferguson. Wondering why that is not showing as related to me. Deleting Sarah would not effect my GGP's. Someone must have been deleted between me and them.

I would love to see if someone could figure this out, because I attempted to follow the trail of DNA back to you, but it just stops.  Strange?!

Its because 4 hours ago, you removed Sarah (Estes) Walker to whom you are related ( https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:Relationship&action=calculate&person1_name=Estes-1683&person2_name=Ward-9858 ), from being a child of Mary (Mumford) Estes)

09:42: Stephanie Ward removed Sarah (Estes) Walker as a child of Mary (Mumford) Estes. [Thank Stephanie for this]

And that makes you no longer related. But before that you were related (at least on paper).

So the DNA Connections indexes are updated every 24 hours, and haven't had time to catch up.

Sometime tomorrow, you will no longer be related.

Stephanie, I see that you made changes today to at least one of Mary Estes' relationships. You removed a child, Sarah Estes Walker. If that's how you were previously connected, those posted DNA connections won't reset until later today. DNA relationships are only updated once a day on WikiTree. Take another look tomorrow and I think you'll see that your test is no longer displayed on her profile.

And a postscript: that's also how Nicholson-2331 showed up as a DNA possible on Mumford-444's profile. Sarah Estes Walker is his 5g-grandmother. He'll roll off tomorrow, too. A lesson that changes we make can have farther reaching effects that we expect.

Oh, I should have realized that-- I noticed once before that the DNA connection didn't appear the first day I added someone that I knew was connected.

 I didn't mention Sarah Walker because I thought she was a red herring-- my great grandmother was a Walker, but Sarah Estes Walker was a Walker by marriage. Or so I thought?

PS: My apologies to any displaced descendants! I removed Sarah because at 8 years younger than Elisha and Mary Ann she was more likely his sister. But neither his sister Sarah nor his daughter Sarah married a Walker, as far as I could see.
