Another book which may be of interest to some is Cockes and Cousins which was first published in 1967.  It is available via Google books and can also be downloaded as an eBook.

When I went to what is now Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond in the late 1950s my housemother was a Miss Harriet Cocke, a cute little old lady in her 70s and descended from the well-known Cocke family of Virginia.

Also when my room-mate got married in Buckingham County, Virginia, c1949, the reception was held at (Upper) Bremo, built by John Hartwell Cocke, of the same family.
