Well, dear cousins, I found a notable Canadian, Loftus Morton Fortier, from Kingston Ontario, who helped establish Brandon, Manitoba, and was a pioneer in the movement to preserve historical buildings in Canada folliowing the tradition begun in the US, etc... He stated his ancestry goes back to [[Fortier-81 | Antoine Fortier]], while there are zero source Geni links between them, particularly https://www.geni.com/people/Charles-Fortier/6000000012617460202?through=6000000012617423229 which breaks down at [[Fortier-748 | Charles]] in our tree.

I posted about all I could hoover from the internet on Loftus, and I tentatively created his father's profile, and that's where I'm pausing for brunch. The genealogy I do have is

Any help in unraveling this would be really sweet.

Hi Doug, thanks for the lead. That fits very well with what I have so far. Changed keywords and came across Richard Loftus (who turns out to be a notable son of his) from this gem of a book, which has genealogy to Antoine that I now will go over.

Unfortunately, today, Ancestry just wants me to signup...

Bruce, there is an article here  http://images.ourontario.ca/1812/69997/data  re the War of 1812 that will be of interest.  I have added a link on James Fortier's profile.

Hi Joe, yes indeed. Thanks. Excellent photo too. Thanks for doing that. I found very little after that pdf I posted in response to Doug. I think I packed enough in for peeps to get a good idea about him.
