I am doing genealogy research on the Lloyd/Loyd line of my family.  I am researching Timothy Lloyd/Loyd senior.  Looking for information on his:  birth, youth, father, mother, brothers, sisters, and extended famil.  Here is what I know or strongly suspect is known about Timothy Lloyd (Loyd):

+ Born in 1690, probably in Freehold, Monmouth County, New Jersey.

+  From 1690 to 1709 there is little information on Timothy senior.  From 1709 to his death in 1774, there are numerous documents that mention him.

+  Died on 24 Nov 1774 in Freehold, Monmouth County, New Jersey, but can found no record of his grave.

+  Married Alice Tennant in 1709 in Monmouth, New Jersey-but I have found a record of their married.

+  The book New Jersey This Old Monmouth of Ours by William S. Hornor, Moreau Brothers Publishers, Freehold, New Jersey, 1932 provides the following information from pages 377-379:

“The name Lloyd is Welsh…There were a number of families of this name early settled in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.  There were several of these in Monmouth County, between whom no connecting link has been discovered.  In, addition, there was and English family, coming in more recent years, whose line is given to aid in keeping the record clear.  Timothy Lloyd (1) was in Monmouth before 1709, his farm being located on the road from Monmouth Court-House to Englishtown.  It is said that he was descended from Meredydd, King of Powys, Wales, through David, Lord of Lloyddiarth.” (This is a rough quote.)  His wife was Alice Tennant.  Their children supposed to be Timothy (2), John, Ann, and Hannah.  The other families were Lloyds from Philadelphia (William Lloyd, prominent Quaker living in Shrewsburry); Lloyds of Allentown  (Richard Lloyd);  and Lloyds from England (William Lloyd, married twice with two sons John Franklin and William Henry ).

+  The book The Anderson, Perrine, Barbour-Smith, Howell-Clark, Porter, and Savery by Henrietta Elizabeth (Savery) Smith provides the following information from page 11.  “John Loyd was b. June 23, 1733, d. Oct 14, 1784.  He m. abt. 1744 Catharine Craig b. June 23, 1737, d. Aug. 5, 1789…John Lloyd was of royal descent from the Lloyds of Delobbran, Wales.  His ancestor, David Lord of Lloyddiarth, was the first to take the surname Lloyd, and was eleventh in des. From Meredydd, King of Powys, Wales.  A des of David was John Lloyd of Duffryn. He m. Lady Margaret Kynaston, who was des. From the early kings of France and England, and was progenitor of the Lloyds of Penn. And N.J.  Thomas Lloyd was a colonial Gov. of Penn.”  (Note: John was a son of Timothy senior.)

+  North American, Family Histories, 1500-2000 for Margaret Kynaston, page 66:”  Thomas Lloyd, First Deputy Governor and President of Provincial Council at Philadelphia, by his first wife.  Son of Charles Lloyd of Dolobran (of royal descent), XXII.  Son of John Lloyd, who m. Katharine Lloyd of Dolobran, daughter of Humphrey Lloyd of Dyffryn.  Son of John Lloyd of Dyffryn, and Margaret Kynaston, daughter of Humphrey Kynaston. “

Numerous family trees on multiple sites list Timothy Lloyd/Loyd senior as the son of John Lloyd (Loyd).  There seems to be two separate potential John Lloyd/Loyd’s.  They are:

+  John Lloyd/Loyd the son of Thomas Lloyd, Deputy Governor of Pennsylvania under William Penn.  He was born about 1670 in Wales.  He never married. Most sources list him as dying in Jamaica about 1692.

+  John Lloyd/Loyd, son of Charles(I) Lloyd/Loyd and brother of Thomas Lloyd (Deputy Governor of Pennsylvania under William Penn).  Born 1638 in Wales.  Came to America at the same time as his brother.  It appears he married, but had no children.  Most sources list him as dying in Jamaica about 1692.

I have not been able to determine why and when John Lloyd/Loyd when to Jamaica.  (I need to research old Quaker records.)

I have taken DNA tests from three different companies.  I just got the results and need to figure them out.  This may help.

My line goes through Timothy senior, Timothy junior, John, Thomas, Nicholas, James A, Jacob B, Silas, Perry A, and Earl Lavon-my father.  I am adding additional persons to my tree.

Thank you for your help.  This my first G2G question.  Hope I provided the needed information.

The John Lloyd in your line...do you have a date of birth? I am searching for parents of my ancestor John Lloyd born Pennsylvania  1768 (very close to Monmouth) and married to Mary Ann Brownof Essex NJ. I reach a dead end when trying to find John’s parents. I know he moved to Virginia at age 3, perhaps a death of a parent?

I have reviewed these types of records.  I could find nothing that provides information about Timothy Lloyd Sr parents, siblings, birth, and youth.  However, this is a good suggestion. Thanks.
