I have been working on my Australian and Irish roots for a while, am looking to get into my Mauritian roots, but am not highly familiar with the best ways of doing so. Looking to make some Mauritian Genealogy contacts.

My mother claimed Mauritian ancestry.  When I do the DNA I get nearby Seychelles matches.

To answer your question, "No, I have not done Mauritian Genealogy." but I'd like to stay in touch to explore it.

Is your name Noyeaux from Mauritius?  My mother's name was Guest but I think that name came later.  I'm very dependent on the DNA evidence.

Yes it is a Mauritian name, and previously from France I assume. It is a very uncommon name and find it quite difficult to find anyone other than my Australian relatives with the name or a few Mauritian relatives. It must have died off in the male line in Europe or there may be another explanation that i am yet to find.
Thanks Tony,

The name that I was investigating was GUEST but thanks to Chris Hampson I was redirected to search for GUET, which has produced DNA hits. So maybe one other explanation lies with the spelling? The British have been rather creative with French names. Could yours have been mistranslated into NOYES?

I too wondered about the gap in the male line.  My mother's name was GUET; in my tree there is Claude GUET 1738 but I cannot trace an unbroken line with that name.  While I continue to look for that line in Mauritius I also have in mind that maybe some families returned to the old country? There is another Claude GUET in France in 1840. I am not an expert genealogist so I have decided to keep an eye on both leads!

Thanks for the find. I tried registering. Will wait and see if i get any reply. May try emailing them too.

I am currently a member of the National Archive of Mauritius and can assist. Feel free to search >>here<< (Cercle de Généalogie Maurice - Rodrigues)  Great transcription database that is well populated and detailed.

I have extensive knowledge as far as Mauritius is concerned and would be more than willing to help out. I have been researching for about 11 years now. Feel free to join the Mauritian Ancestry Project which I have started. There is some useful info on our landing page and we would be glad to have you contribute with your ancestry.
