Fáilte!!

The Irish Roots Project co-ordinates the efforts of Wikitreers who have Irish ancestry and/or would like to improve the profiles of Irish people and the Irish diaspora on Wikitree.

There has been an explosion of free Irish genealogical records in the last few years and there has never been a better time to bust those brick walls and improve the Irish profiles on Wikitree.

If you would like to join the project we would love to have you.  Please post an answer below (including your research interests and what you would like to work on) and follow the instructions on the project page.

Hello, would like to participate. Born in Ireland and have ancestral links to County Mayo & County Antrim. Currently reside in County Down.

Many thanks, Lucy.
Please add me to the project. My maternal lineage surnames: Adair, Jamison, Kinnear, Little, and Martin. All were living in County Down in the early to mid-1800s. The came to the US in 1856 and settled in Oakland, Garrett, MD. I'd enjoy tracking back their ancestry, meeting cousins, sharing information, etc. Also, I wonder if 'my' Adair, Little, and Martin family are connected to those who came to America in the 1700s and eventually settled in Laurens County, SC. If so, they were neighbors of my paternal lineage (Bell, Bourland, Odell, and Prather).  Thanks so much!
Hi Lucy,  sorry for the delay in picking up your post.   Welcome to the Irish Roots Project.  Good luck with your research.
Hi Beth and welcome to the Irish Roots Project.   Good luck with your research in 2019.
thanks so much (again)!
Hello, my name is Jessica Moylan from the United States, I have ancestors that came from Ireland but I am not quite sure as to how many generations ago. If anyone has any information please let me know
Hi Jessica and welcome to WikiTree.    Please see the note I've posted on your profile.
Hi, I am Irish on my mum's side but one of my unties did a dna test and it said we could have an Irish ancestor who was alive about 1775 who possibly lived in Munster but I don't know who he is because my tree somewhat stops around 1833 at Emerson-2390(John Emerson) can someone please help me thanks:)
Hi Lochlan

I have an Emerson [[William Emerson|Emerson-3305]] in my family line (my fourth great grandfather) who born c. 1737 and lived in Waterford, Ireland (part of Munster). So far, I have only identified his three daughters. His youngest daughter Martha Emerson married Thomas Shearman and our family is descended from that line. My information is rather sketchy & haven't been able to take it further back. There were other Emersons in the Waterford and surrounding areas at this time.

Jeanette O'Hagan
Hi Jeanette,  thanks for this.   Are you interested in joining the Ireland Project ?

Lochlan - welcome to WikiTree.

Hi everybody, I'd love to  join the Irish Roots project. My maternal grandparents are Irish (the Flannery's from Kerry and the Moughan's from Mayo), and I'm told that I also have Irish ancestry on my father's side (though I have been unable to trace that yet, and I've got back to around 1760 with my Collins line)

I would like to join the group primarily to trace my maternal and paternal Irish ancestry as well as assisting others in their searches.  Using posted data on wikitree.com and ancestry.com has lead me to brick walls, usually after the first generation.  There are just too many people with the same or similar names.  This group appears to be the key to finding these missing records.

My Irish roots are mainly in Tuam Galway and Sligo. I would like to expand my knowledge of the Irish from Claretuam Galway who moved to the USA, England and Australia. Main names are Higgins and Davey, also, Moran, O’Brien, Doherty and McGrath.

I am researching in four different counties. My main paternal line - Collins - is in West Cork and the barony East Carbery, East Division.  Another paternal line - Mick - is Irish Palatine, based in Ballingrane, County Limerick, north of Rathkeale.  One of my maternal lines is Winter/s, based in Mountshannon, East Clare.  The other maternal line is Kavanagh in County Leitrim.

Where is the little wieners? Lori did not know that is not an Irish delicacy but I'm hooked anyway.
by Living Trogstad G2G6 Mach 1 (15.3k points)
Hi Jodi,   Sorry I'm a bit confused.   Would you like to join the Irish Roots Project?
Yes I want to join Irish Roots. I had no idea until a couple of months ago I was Irish. I never bring anything to family meals, but my sister and mom do. Lori usually has the little wieners with barbecue sauce, which I do not believe any of the two are Irish delicacies. I have no idea what is favored food of an Irish diner. So I am making a joke of my lack of knowing about having Irish heritage.
Hi Jodi and welcome to the Irish Roots Project.   I'm Scottish so not much help on the food front !!

Dia Duit! I am descended from Irish, Scots, German, and English. My Irish, of which I am probably overly proud of, is of the Brennan name. My mother always told me that at one point the name was O'Brannon. She also stated that the family came from around Kilkenney, but another family member has done research showing the family came from areas such as Monaghan and Mayo. I'd really like to see if I can get more evidence of family roots in Ireland.

I have been able to identify my paternal line, Thomas Edmund Langley borne in Ireland around 1805.  I have a keen interest in pursuing this but also I have a broader interest.  I live in Belgium but plan to set-up a second 'home' on the Irish West Coast.  My interest is in Medieval History, specifically Ireland, Scotland and the Low Countries where I currently reside.

Hi Terrance and welcome to the Irish Roots Project.    Your interest in medieval Ireland will be most useful to us !!

Hi Maria,

I am Jim Morin.  While my name line is from Quebec, I have Irish roots via my Grandmother in  the Wynne's and Pierse's of Kilflynn, County Kerry, and via a Great Grandmother in the Daunts and O'Neills of County Cork and County Kerry.  I can trace my Great Grandmother's, (Lydia Mary Daunt (Daunt-43), name line back to John Daunt in the reign of Henry VIII at Owlpen, Gloucestershire, England.  With Thomas Daunt (Daunt-52) and his son William Daunt (Daunt-17) this family solidified holding in County Cork at Tracton Abbey and Gortigrenane County Cork.

Hopefully I can join the Irish Roots project and eventually the pre-1500 project.

Regards, Jim Morin

I would like to join the Irish Roots project, I am researching Haynes, Tennisson and Spencer, so far Kilkenny, Carlow  and Killdare have been my focus. But found marriage records in Dublin for a event that was reported in family bible as Kilkenny. Hit a wall around 1800 and before. Also researching historical events that altered daily lives of known family members. My grandmother Ruth Haynes and her brother were orphaned in Cincinnati Ohio.

I would like to help provide accurate information and update theineafe of the O’Neil dynasty. I am a descendant of the family and a member of the SAR. My patriot is from Ireland Captain James’s T Neal of the O’Neil dynasty. When Hugh lost his fortune from the family and created a new life in America is the whole reason I am born. I want to connect his descendants to the dynasty to provide accurate information for the Irish Roots Project!
