Death/Burial records for Marseille, France

A few years back my dad told me that he had found out that my great great grandfather Frederick GEE (Gee-2064), who was a marine engineer, died and was buried in Marseille, France in Nov 1887. Sadly, my dad died a few years back, and I now live on the other side of the world, and mum wouldn't know where to start looking!

Frederick seems to have got about a fair bit, and if there's anyone who has any information about him (eg why was he born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1842(ish), what were his parents doing there? Is there any way of tracking his history as a marine engineer, because in 1875 he was in South Africa?) I'd be really interested.

Thanks

Thank you David. That is definitely him. Do you have a reference for that information? I wonder what his cause of death was...

I think they/someone assumed he was born in Halifax, England (Angleterre) because the other records I have seen have him born in either Nova Scotia or America!

Sorry I haven't replied in French - my spoken French is good, but my written French is abysmal!
I added a link to the death record.
Got it! Thanks sooooo much! :-)
Did you find out why he was born in halifax?   His father James was the colour sargeant of the 89th regiment of foot which was stationed in Canada at the time Frederick was born.   Hope this is helpful

And there is nothing listed on each one to identify who they were where they were born, or who they were married to, or the names of children. If you want those, I can write them down for you to look at.   If you need any more help just let me know. Nancy
