Weirdness in merging? (NOT going into lowest profile number)

Question

I thought I was being careful, and I thought that the system would only let us merge in one direction.

I was working on Jane Baldwin ( Wells-513 ), but now 513 redirects  into Wells-1080 :(

Did the system change?  Im so sorry that I didnt pay attention. Is this a glitch that needs to be fixed?

There were two different spellings ( Welles-382  & Wells-1080) Two things could have happened. 1. system picked the correct spelling 2. you picked the correct name.

The system should give you the option of picking the correct name when you get to the merge screen. Did you get the option?

So, thats the other weirdness.  Wells-513 had multiple merges pending on it.  I thought I was merging all of them into Wells-513 (since Wells was identified as the the correct LNAB)  But, now Wells-513 redirects into Wells-1080, and Wells-1080 does not have anything in the changes changes about Wells-513 (except a proposed merge).

So, this is unrelated to the Welles-382 merge, but that merge into Wells-1080 made me realize that Wells-513 dissapeared.

You can see some of the numerous merge history on the profile, but not much of it shows up in the changes screen:

This profile developed through the merging of Welles Baldwin-3 into Welles Baldwin-1.
This profile developed through the merging of Wells-1533 and Wells-513.
This profile developed through the merging of Welles Baldwin-1 and Wells-513.

Amanda the changes are hard to find sometimes with redirects. When I merge a profile and see there were a lot of merges before I try to include all the changes to the bottom of the profile under === changes & merges ===.

You can find the changes but its not the easiest thing to do. It gets better with time. I will look at the above profiles & get all the changes and try to explain how I found them.

To anyone who comes across this later:

I merged Wells-513 into Welles-382 (on accident), then merged Welles-382 into Wells-1080.  So, PAY ATTENTION TO MERGE DIRECTIONS with different spellings of the last name :)

 I'm going to attempt to explain how to find all the merged profiles.

1. click the changes tab for welles-1080. http://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:NetworkFeed&who=Wells-1080
2. Scroll down to the bottom of the activity feed to Mar 30th
3. Click on imported the data.   Now you will see  Creation of Wells-1080.
4. Click next change and notice there is only one.
5. Go back to the activity feed for Jane http://http://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:NetworkFeed&who=Wells-1080 
6. click on Welles-382 where is says (Merged Welles-382 into Wells-1080)  http://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:NetworkFeed&who=Welles-382
7. You will now see changes to profile of Jane Baldwin.

I hope you are noticing the pattern. You have to find the changes page for each profile that's merged. By clicking on the profile inside here-> (Merged soandso-1 into soandso-2) will hopefully take you to the activity feed. When there are numerous merges it can be very difficult to figure out but it can be done. You just need a lot of time on your hands!

I did not post all the links to the every changes page.
Each page can contain other profiles that were merged as well. UGH!
