The women are Sringfellow-325 and Stringfellow-406 and Stringfellow-425

Is there a mentor out there who can arrange the tripple merger?

So, well, I proposed to the PM (Ellen) who is not the man who walked away that 2 of the files that are duplicates be merged. If she's responsive, it is likely accomplished. That would be for Mrs Elizabeth (Stringfello) Gravette and her father William. I didn't look beyond the Stringfellow portion, so how many more are duplicated under different surnames, I don't know. I'm reluctant to LOOK.

Anyone else who wants to is encouraged to go look and go for it.

Susan, I could do it for you, but I can explain how to do it and I (or others here) can guide you through it, so that you'll have the confidence to do it in the future.

First, I just checked the profiles and you are absolutely correct - they are all the same person - CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR GREAT FIND!!!

When we do a multiple merge, we want to make the final target profile the target of each merge we do (that minimizes the behind the scenes processing that has to be done to redirect any requests for the no-longer-existing profiles).  So … we want to merge each of the others into the lowest profile number (since the LNABs are the same for all of them).  That would be Stringfellow-325.

You want to set up two merges -

  1. Propose a merge for Stringfellow-406 and Stringfellow-325, entering 325 as the second profile (although it doesn't really matter - WikiTree will automatically make the lower number the profile that remains when the merge is completed).
  2. Propose a merge for Stringfellow-425 and Stringfellow-325, entering 325 as the second profile.

...and since both profile managers appear to be somewhat inactive, you'll have to wait 30 days for the default merge approval before the merge can be completed.

you won't be notified, so you'll have to remember to check back ... or frequently look at the "Find" menu under "Pending Merges"
OOPS - MY BAD!

Susan, I just looked more carefully at the three profiles and see that there are more duplicates in the family.  Some of Elizabeth's siblings need to be merged, but that's not a problem - it can be done later.

The problem is that her parents are also duplicates and, although you could merge them after completing the merges of all the Elizabeth's, it is much better (easier, too) to do family merges starting from the earliest generation.  Can you handle setting up the merges for her parents now or do you need either more step-by-step instructions for it or do you want someone else to do it?

After the parent merges are completed (assuming that it will take a 30 day wait for that to be able to happen), then propose the merges for the Elizabeth's … ok???
OMG! GAH! Over my pay level?

Based on recent efforts to just give someone in MY lines a spouse ... oh that was not fun ... she's still not got a spouse ... and I'm faced with a 3rd effort ... whimper -- chalk it up to Operator Error while fending of cats and family members and ... it was hexed all day

Okay I will attempt, just attempt to propose a merge, some mergers, and we'll see what happens and if you hear an operatic high C scream of anguish know that it is only me being frustrated once more

Here, Susan … have some CHOCOLATE before you set out.  They're guaranteed to keep you calm and happy.

After that, if you have any questions at all, just post back here and you'll get help super-fast.

I took a stiff shot of Kentucky Bourbon and 2 aspirin and ... then contacted the PM who has duplicated her own and suggested she clear that up and then go to the Stringfellow Index and propose a merger on any duplicates ... I'll check in November to see what happened

You never know, she might be willing and able to do so
Was it at least chocolate flavored bourbon?  Sounds like you have a plan and have begun to implement it - good job!
Well, it's probably better named "shirking" or "dodging" or "evading" or even "fear" and "anxiety" about the anticipated struggle with the so-far mostly victorious hex that rides me when I attempt to deal with some of these utilities? applications? y'all have put together ... admitted with the Bourbon the anxiety is muffled but I won't deny I prefer to give that PM a chance to  ALSO learn by doing LOL ...

I have managed to merge my own duplicate files and where did THOSE come from anyway? and that went well enough, and confounded my anxiety but there's no two ways to say it, the efforts to propose a merger have been a struggle so far -- apparently Froggy goes courtin' and gets sideswiped

I did once have something alcoholic that was chocolate, but that was about 50 years ago and I've forgotten what it was called -- my tongue tried to crawl away and my stomach wanted to debate the Issue .. I don't mean to say it was nasty tasting, but it sure wasn't my sort of delight
Susan - I find that self-medicating with alcohol can be quite calming.

You go girl!  LOL
Auto-hypnosis also works. Well, works for me, better than a shot. That I COULD do it, if I WANTED TO, "works" -- However, I'm hypogycemic since 1970. ALMOST teetotal by necessity, not choice, and I dare not -- or not very often anyway. eh, well, that's Life.

Man with a duplicate file replied, he done walked away from his 100 or so files and told me I can do what I want which of course I cannot. MY best idea was for him to come back long enough to orphan all his files THEN someone else could "do the deed". I dropped the whole thing on Cindy Williams, what he said, what I said, the cc: thing you know -- maybe SHE can coax the bear out of hiding.

Susan, there are two ways to go, since he's not coming back:

  1. Since the profiles are all open, when merges are proposed, they will go to default in 30 days, after which any member can complete them.
  2. If you're interested in adopting the profiles (becoming the manager of them) then you can file an unresponsive profile manager request.  If you include a quote of the manager's response to you, that should make the process go faster.  When they make the determination that the manager is definitely not coming back, they will orphan all profiles he/she manages.
So, I can propose the merger, and in 30 days, and can be THEN completed and HE doesn't have to do anything and HE won't be pestered? I'll give it a try. Won't hurt.

As for his walking away, I figure it's HIS responsibility to let WikiTree know this.

And, no, thank you, the folks he has are not in my lines although I HAVE a George Stringfellow who married a Moore (3 kids by her) who was the gd dau of a Howell woman who was the sister of my gt grdfather Burl B Howell / Burrell Bertram "B B" Howell  And THIS Moore woman subsequently married her cousin as her 3rd who was the bro of my very own gdfather son of BB Howell

So the Stringfellow are peripheral think that's the word. Took me something like a week to get enough records together to sort out all this "who done what to whom" ... and 3 tries due to operator errors to get it IN. It has been a difficult week. That's putting it politely.

I was actually trying to RELAX when I surfed the Stringfellow index and tripped over this "walk away" ... LOL
