Should the WikiTree ID for Cornelis (b 1584, m Maria du Truex) and his children be Viele or Volckertszen?

Baptismal records don't show Viele, just Volkertszen. See both the comment and the text on his profile - http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Viele-19

Please weigh in on which you consider correct and why by April 8.

Thanks!

No closing date anymore. This G2G remains open for discussion to possible change final WikiTree ID from Viele in the future.

comments from Steven Mix received via e-mail:

Why Volckertszen? Because of "the supposed stated presence of a baptismal record name of the father? Pieter and siblings were NOT named Volckertszen. The father Cornelis was named that, on his children's records. Pieter and siblings wouold be Cornelsiz, or something similar. ... And besides, Viele means something, and it came from somewhere. So we cannot simply rashly get rid of it, without understanding why it has become applied as the surname in all of these matches, and sometimes spelled Veile, perhaps in error, but we do not know. ... And besides, Viele means something, and it came from somewhere. So we cannot simply rashly get rid of it, without understanding why it has become applied as the surname in all of these matches, and sometimes spelled Veile, perhaps in error, but we do not know. All of that needs the G2G to work out. But in the meantime, our choice is Viele."

And on the son Pieter, I just noticed that we have set the wrong number 17 to the NNS. The correct one for NNS should instead be the much lower number, Pieter Viele-3

So I will red Notice tag 3, and also back off the pending merge of 30 into 17. That had been set up prior to our system, and is the reason why we mistakenly rushed into making 17 the NNS.

Beyond that, the ongoing discussion here should be about the origin and meaning and appropriateness of the Viele name, and also which of these children should eventually instead have the patronymic Cornelisz, or similar. I see one daughter with a middle name Cornelszen, which is almost correct, as I understand the Dutch patronymic system for girls (ending in sen).

made Viele-3 NNS & Viele-17 Merge Compare. Thanks!
