Hi, I'm looking for any details that can be found about my great uncle Oliver Cecil Pugh (b. 1906) who emigrated to Halifax, Canada 12th April 1926.   We have no knowledge of him since he left UK.  He had 3 sisters Elsie May (b. 1901 - before parents marriage, my nan), Edith A (b. 1903)., and Eva G. Pugh (b. 1913) and his parents were Oliver G (b. 1876) and Isabella A Pugh (b 1878).  Isabella's maiden surname was Cecil.

Would really be excited to find any information about Oliver Cecil Pugh, or assistance finding out more.

Hi there

I'd like to make a big thank you to Frank Gill for his providing me with details regarding Cecil Pugh.

Whilst on an RV holiday across Canada, I was able to visit the cemetary in Innesfail and find the gravestone.  We also visited the Heritage Village and Town office - now I am researching even more to find out about Cecil's life in Canada.   I believe from voter lists, that he was at sometime residing in Lancaster Drive, Red Deer - does anyone have suggestions for finding out more??

From Voter's Lists on Ancestry:

  • 1953: Cecil Pugh, farmer, Innisfail, Alberta
  • 1957: Cecil Pugh, farmer, Innisfail, Alberta
  • 1958: Cecil Pugh, oil worker, Innisfail, Alberta
  • 1963: Cecil Pugh, desk clerk, Innisfail, Alberta
  • 1974: Cecil Pugh, retired, Innisfail, Alberta
Many thanks Christine

Where would I have to go to find address details for each of these years - as these lists do not give the addresses (unlike some others on Ancestry).   I'm trying to see also whether he was a tenant/renting a location listed for him in Red Deer.

Here is a great website with old photos of Innisfail, Innisfail Photos.

Since this was such a small town, and especially the years he was farming, I think he was probably not living in the town proper.

Wow Christine!   what a fantastic site - when we were in Innisfail a fortnight ago, we had a lovely Chinese meal at a restaurant on the main street.  We recognise how that street looked.. and the photos of the church.

After retiring, he appears to have lived in Red Deer (as I mentioned in earlier comment.  Were there major farms/farm companies who we might be able to trace do you think?

Many thanks for bringing this to our attention.

No, unfortunately I'm not adept at Alberta sources. A few more places you might find information would be locally, maybe a land registry office, or see if you could find his obituary in the local paper. Sometimes you find some lovely write-ups. Other than that, if the cemetery records are available, his burial record might have information as to where he lived; alternatively you might be able to get his death record from the province of Alberta.

Many thanks again - will try your suggestions here.

Hi Helen, I am new to this site but I suggest we need to communicate as we very much have common ground worth exploring. I am related to Oliver George Pugh 1876-1961, and obviously Oliver Cecil Pugh b 1906. I am seeking the same information as you, but lets just say I have different information about possibly your Nan Elsie May Cecil and her youngest sister Eva Gertrude Pugh.
