Hi All,

Just to share what that Scan a Thon causes in a very good way and to encourage you all to participate next time. Prepare! Get those old shoeboxes down and scan in advantage. The more the merrier!! And you can upload them in advantage!

I hadn't much time to join but as a loyal member of the Dutch_Roots I took a few hours last night to upload forgotten scans at my machine to profiles.

But I was remembering we have three great big photographs from around 1895 gifted and I still need to photograph them for a long time and upload them to my family tree. Well last night I searched for them. Found them and added them but............. I came across another gem.

The embroidery of my hubs grandmother Antje! She started it at the age of 8 (1912) and probably finished as she was ten years old (1914), according to the dates added to the sampler. My hub even didn't know we had it and not even sure it was of his grandmother. TG there are female in the family! Her name is on it!!!

I wanted to share this family photo of Antje Maarse with the community. To show what wonderful things the Scan a Thon causes!

Location: Aalsmeer, Noord-Holland, Nederland. Date: 1912-1914

Click here for the image details page or here for the full-sized version (923 x 926).

I am adding now the rest of her family. Just hoping I can figure out the other initials she added to her sampler............

Thank you leaders for organizing a new xxx-a-Thon!!

As Steven Tibbets stated we all made so many pages and profiles look so much more attractive!!

Happy Treeing (it is!),

A.

Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful piece of embroidery! I'm an avid stitcher (cross stitch, embroidery, knitting and crocheting) so I especially appreciate the beauty of this fine piece.

Thank you Robin!

I loved to do all. But do not anymore. sad

My mum was a great handiworker. She learned me all. She was also a good Frivolite worker. She gifted me all the tools but she never thaugt me how to use it...........
Thank you, Susan. As usual, you are so kind.
Thank you Susan!

Pictures of our forebears' needlework are a great idea. I'll do that, too.

Thanks for this.

Yes the Scan a Thon brought me to the idea. Now that needlework of our grandmother is saved forever and indentified forever (even her grandson didn't know it was of his grandmother). It really makes me happy!

Needlework is vanishing. I think my generation is the last that made smyrna cushions and carpets, knit socks, scarves and sweaters, crothceted tablecloth and curtains, embroidered samplers and birth embroideries............ exluding some exceptions.........
