Humphrey Howland had three brothers, Arthur, John, and Henry Howland in Plymouth Colony.

John Howland's great-granddaughter, Yetmercy Howland has the same design of Howland coat of arms on her gravestone in Bristol, Rhode Island as Sarah Collet's. Both Yetmercy Howland and Lady Sarah Collet are the first cousins twice removed.

The description of their coat of arms is retaining much original design of the Howland coats of arm that was granted in 1584 by Queen Elizabeth, beginning with Bishop Richard Howland in Peterborough, England.

How did Humphrey Howland's daughter get the coat of arms of Bishop Richard Howland? What was their relationship to Bishop Richard Howland of Peterborough, England?

I understand Bishop Richard Howland's brother Sir Giles Howland's descendants did have the Howland coat of arms on their monuments in the churches of Marylebone in London and St. Leonard in Streatham.

Yes, it exists inside the building of St. Magnus the Martyr church in London.

The grant of arms was to Richard Howland D.D, of Cambridge University, son and heir of John Howland, of London, gent, and to the descendants of the said John, the father.

So Bishop Richard's many brothers became arms-bearers on the strength of his self-made distinction.

My first guess would be that Henry Howland d 1635 was a nephew of Bishop Richard.
