Antoine Sorrel des Rivieres b. France, died Louisiana

General G. Moxley Sorrel wrote in his book, Reflections of a Confederate staff officer, "My forebears were French on my father's side. His father, Antoine Sorrel des Rivieres, Colonel du Genie (Engineer Corps) in the French Army, was on his estates in the island of St. Dimingo when the bloody insurrection of the blacks broke out at the opening of the century (1800).....his life barely saved by concealment and flight to Cuba, thence to Louisiana...where he died at a great age."

Looking for any source to establish DOB, place, DOD, location so I may add him to the tree an the father of Francis Sorrel.

Thanks in advance, Nancy

David, merci. I do believe this is likely his wife. I am going to have to brush up on my French from 40 years ago to get through these sources. Again, thank you!

Thank you Marion! Not having Findmypast, I hadn't found the marriage record. I was reluctant to add her as the first wife with just the F-A-G source.
You’re welcome

The family came from Grenoble.

Antoine François SORREL (DES RIVIERES) was born there in 1737

He settled in Saint-Domingue, in Port-au-Prince.
