Is there a Bot for matching?

Looking for a possible ancestor, I did a surname search. While looking at the list I clicked merge/match. I found many matches within one surname - and many of those were added by the same PM, or two PMs, that I need to ask:

Do we have a bot that can look for potential matches for merging?

Some of the duplicates were Gedcoms, some manual entries - many with little or no sourcing.

Could a bot look through surnames and say "Hey, I see 2 men called Barnaby Snucks born the same year in the same place, can a human check this out?" If the names are Mary, Sarah, John, William, etc. there would be too many matches, but I think someone could deal with that! It would be a big help if the bot would just locate less common names that match.

Thanks for the guidance. I found it and would not have without your answers.

Still, it seems it only finds matches when one is not connected to the global tree. Is that correct?

I have run across several where both are connected to the tree and the same individual, but not identified as possible matches. My thought is that the PMs have hit them through different descendants (for example one will have info on the parents and a couple of sibs and the other will have no parents, but some matching sibs and lots of children).

I will forge on with the links you have provided. Mahalo.

The weekly Data Doctors report does highlight possible duplicates.

This week's report can be found at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Data_Doctors_Report_2019-06-16

If you look at the suggestion under the "Relation" heading you will find the possible duplicates.

You can find the new report weekly on https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Data_Doctors

Have you never heard of the disaster that was MatchBot?  Search for him on G2G and see the anguished posts.
