Interesting American Rev. veterans website; settling patterns while moving to Tennessee

Just came across what I thought was a very interesting website that may be fairly new, and thought others might find it useful.

Put together by Tennessee State Library and Archives, its a graphic display of Am. Rev. veterans movements up to settling in Tennessee.  Compiled from over a thousand pension applications, various maps trace relocations, many from birth, to various places lived until they settled in Tenn.

Just thought it was fun and interesting and maybe others might find it useful.  It's very graphic oriented and probably will load slowly on some PCs.

Nice resource!

I note with a combination of amusement and concern that the maps used to plot men's county locations (and thus movements) show modern county names and boundaries, which aren't necessarily the same as what existed at past times such as 1832 (when pension records were used to map pensioners' locations). This results, for example, in misleading results. Some areas that are mapped as empty of veterans are modern counties that hadn't been created in 1832 (they were part of another larger county). The likely reason why no veterans were recorded in those counties is that the county didn't exist yet.

Great site!  It was interesting to click on some names and see how they traveled.  I do wish they had used older maps, like Ellen said above.  Perhaps one day all the Rev War pensioners will be mapped like this!

Cool site. I really wish WikiTree had these kinds of mapping capabilities built-in. It would really make this site stand out from many others.

I had a similar thought when I added the "maps" tag to the question.
