Robert Dunbar McBride was born in 1853 in Butler, Pennsylvania. His father was Alexander Struthers McBride. On his father's side he was descended from McBrides who arrived in Ohio in the 1700s, and from Struthers who arrived in Maryland in the 1700s. On his mother's side his grandmother Margaret Dunbar emigrated from Ireland to Butler, Pennsylvania around 1800. In 1809 Margaret married Hugh McKee, who was born in Butler. Their daughter Maria, born in Butler in 1821, married Alexander Struthers McBride. In other words, we are likely twice cousins, once each on the Struthers and McBride lines. [wr]
