How/Where - Early Vermont (<1790) records? [closed]

I'm in Canada - I've traced my earliest ancestor back to Burlington, Vermont in 1790 (He's on Census).  He left for Canada in 1793.

There was a petition for an Act of Insolvency filed in 1793.  It cites problems in the mercantile line and being a bondsman (I assume for a marriage of one of his children) as the reasons for his insolvency ...   The council ordered a detailed accounting of his financial situation ..

This is as far as I've been able to take it.   I'm curious if those "detailed accounting" would identify WHO the bond was put up for... and if they exist somewhere.   I read that Vermont doesn't have all its records online .. and to find anything you need to go in person to the archives.

Does anyone have any information on how I may go about requesting records (or a records search) ...  and also what other sources I should check for records this far back??

A bondsman can refer to someone who put up the finance for a businessman, a shipping company, or other endeavours.

Absolutely.  And if he was in the mercantile line - also quite probable.

I guess I should have wrote "I'm hoping its for a marriage for one of his children)
