Biography

Alice was the daughter and heir of Ralph de Arundel and Juliane.[1][2] Her birth date is not known. She may have been born in Buckinghamshire: her parents, herself and her husband were all buried at Towersey, Buckinghamshire.[1][2]

Alice married Batholomew Collingridge,[3] who is recorded as farming land at Medmenham, Buckinghamshire and Shirburn, Oxfordshire,[1][2] and who also held the manor of Quatremains, Great Milton, Oxfordshire.[4] No record has been found of when they married. They had at least one child:

Alice and her husband were buried at Towersey, Buckinghamshire. Her death date is not known.[1][2] There is a memorial inscription mentioning her, her husband, their son William and her parents at Towersey, Buckinghamshire.[3]

Research Notes

In his list of sources for Alice's granddaughter Alice, Douglas Richardson cites a number of older sources which say that her first name was Ursula, and that Ursula/Alice was the daughter of Alice FitzAlan/Arunbdel and Bartholomew Collingridge: these were the paternal grandparents of the Alice of this profile.[1][2] See the granddaughter's profile for more discussion.

Alice (Arundel) Collingridge appears in Magna Carta Ancestry in a Richardson-documented trail from Gateway Ancestor Edward Howell to Magna Carta Surety Baron Robert de Vere (vol. II, pages 418-426 HOWELL). This profile also appers in a trail between Edward Howell and surety Saher de Quincy. Both trails were badged by the Magna Carta Project in 2015 and re-reviewed in May 2023. The trails are outlined in the Magna Carta Trails section of Margaret Hawten's profile.
See Base Camp for more information about identified Magna Carta trails and their status. See the project's glossary for project-specific terms, such as a "badged trail".

Fitzalan-379 and FitzAlan-148 are not ready to be merged because: On a G2G question related to this merge, there is a comment that her LNAB should perhaps be Arundel and not FitzAlan http://www.wikitree.com/g2g/217297/pre-1500-certified-member-merge-fitzalan-379-fitzalan-148 also there appear to be no reliable sources on either profile, and according to another comment, there might be no reliable sources for her name. Seemingly much more research needs to take place before the merge takes place.

UPDATE: Alice has been detached as wife of Henry Beaufort and mother of Jane Beaufort, today 14 April 2015. A new profile will be created for her mother, who was mistress of Cardinal Beaufort, and it will be connected to the Cardinal and their daughter Jane.

It appears that Alice the daughter of Richard de Arundel and Elizabeth de Bohun, who was the mistress of [Cardinal] Henry Beaufort and later wife of John Cherleton, has been wrongly merged into Alice the daughter of Ranulph and Julliana and the the wife of Bartholomew Coleridge.

The Magna Carta project will be creating a new profile for Alice the dau. of Richard de Arundel, and will be detaching Henry Beaufort (husband) and Joan (Beaufort) de Beaufort daughter, from this Alice Fitzalan-379.

We do not need the trees and AFN #s etc. used to document Alice wife of Henry Beaufort, so please just delete any such wrong sources which do not reference Alice the wife of Bartholomew Collinridge, from this profile.

Thank you.

Looks like Fitzalan-580 was the other one, with correct parents. But their details got confused, which made them look similar, and then instead of being deconfused, they got merged.

I do not think that this is the Alice Fitzalan who was the alleged mistress of Henry Beaufort and who was the mother of Jane Beaufort born circa 1402. Alice Fitzalan was born in Arundel Castle, Sussex around 1378, the daughter of Richard Fitzalan 11th Earl of Arundel and Elizabeth de Bohun. She married Sir John Cherleton in 1392 and died in Oct 1415. There is no record of her having married Bartholomew Collindge. There seems to be a mix up of Alices here.
