DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Pete by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Pete:

Hi Judith - Thanks for your interest. As far as I am aware there is no primary evidence that Peter D. Fleming was actually the son of Col. john Fleming and Mary Bolling. I think this should be discussed in this biography, but I have never had time to work on it. I'm not sure how the present biography was generated. It needs a lot of work. As noted, he is not listed among the heirs of Col. John Fleming in the latter's will. I suppose it is possible that he was disowned or something, but I have never found evidence of that. To be honest, it has been several years since I looked carefully into this issue. I know that many sources connect him to the Col. John Fleming/Mary Bolling lineage, but I seem to recall that this issue has been looked at rather carefully by well-reputed genealogists with the conclusion that this connection was probably an error that has been disseminated widely.

I removed Peter David Fleming. He is not descended from this group of Flemings.

Question for the accuracy of this:

Could you tell me why Peter D. isn't listed among the heirs of his often-listed father John, nor why he isn't listed in the "Some Prominent Virginia Families, Vol 1-4, where all of the other children are listed? I would really like this information to be accurate. If there are other sources, I would very much like to have them, as I am a direct descendant. Thank you. I realize that you have not listed a father, but if it is possible that he is the son of Col John Fleming, as many presume, I have found no evidence of that- is that your experience as well? I am DNA connected with Peter's descendants, with 27 separate DNA connections to his son Peter.

I think that it will take some talented genealogists to sort these folks out, as the records do not validate, as you accurately say, and appreciate your answer, as it carries a lot of importance to my maternal Fleming family. The roots are buried deeply.
