Fact: http://familysearch.org/v1/LifeSketch The reason you can't find Nathaniel Beverley Tucker (a.k.a Beverly Tucker) in most U.S. censuses is detailed in the 1890 news article about his death (see Memories), which describes his travels (and sometimes years-long visits) to England, Mexico and Canada from 1857 to 1870. The article doesn't mention his wife Jane or their children, but they may have accompanied him on one or more of his foreign visits, which would account for why they also can't be found in many U.S. censuses. He was a well-educated man, and was appointed as a diplomat for the U.S. by President James Buchanan, so one can safely assume that he gave his children a quality education as well.
